Anyone played Skylanders Giants on 3DS yet?

Gotta say im really disappointed the Frame rate is terrible and it actually looks worse than the original 3DS Version
and really bad compared to the Wii version
I'd say at best a really polished DS game
Its still got that fun charm and playability but its hindered by the frame rate
Very disappointed Activision

Will be interested to see the reviews on this one

Hi, new here and interested in hearing more about the 3DS version of the game since I loved the first one. Everything I've seen so far in youtube videos echos your sentiments (terrible framerate and not as pretty looking as the first game).

My main concern however is the actual platforming. I want to know if it's anywhere near as exciting or challenging as the first game was. I played the first game over and over simply because I really enjoyed hopping around like crazy from platform to platform. It was diverse and interesting enough to keep me hooked. Now, I know this version is developed by n-Space so I'm wondering if they lived up to the challenge of creating a game just as fun as the first. Vicartious really nailed it the first time.

From the videos I've seen so far though, the platforming is practically non-existent, though mind you I've only seen the first couple of levels. Does it pick up later on and get just as dangerous and exciting as the first game? Is there even less platforming in Giants? This will likely determine whether or not I bother to pick this game up.

Also, I can't find reviews ANYWHERE so I'm relying solely on word of mouth and youtube videos for now.

Skylanders, in my opinion, is a gigantic freaking ripoff.

It's basically $40 for the main game, then around $160 for the rest of the game content with all those dolls and figurines, along with the portal. The creator of the game is a genius, I must give credit where it's due. A money-laundering person, but a genius.

Anyways, rant aside, the reviews actually seem somewhat positive, in light of the scammery. They say there's more personality but the game is rather short. Can't really judge much.

It's made my N-Space,they made Heroes of Ruin, that gives you a hint on how this'll be.

I really want to get the Wii version, and the original was actually the biggest surprise of 2011.

@hale-bop I have played it for about an hour they have made it more like the console versions for instance when you go through a gate that requires a particular magic element it doesnt take you to a new area you stay in the same part of the game. The achievements are done in the same way as the console versions as well. There are also cut scenes like the console versions so its not all bad. It just suffers with some dodgy frame rate issues and some mediocre graphics. Now im not saying the 3ds is a power house in the graphics department but.... SSF4, Kid Icarus and Resident Evil Revelations all have stunning graphics so its just a shame the graphics are of such low quality when the 3DS is capable of so much more. Hell Liberation Maiden and Sakura Samurai have better graphics and they are downloadable titles.

Edit: Oh and theres still plenty of platforming but its not in abundance like the original

To end personally this is a stop gap for me untill the Wii U version gets a release date

Well i completed skylanders giants got every star i could and i have to say i was a little hard on the game i actually enjoyed it despite being a bit short
and i have to admit there was some really cool levels really well designed that even put some of super mario 3d lands levels to shame.
Its not a perfect game but it kept for amused for 20 hours or so

This game is better than most 3ds games, the graphics are decent, the framerate could use some work though :/

I got every Star and Hat, including those on the Adventure Pack levels.
What did I think?
It was painful, honestly.
Framerate is as awful as it seems. I got one of the better copies, judging off what I've seen, and it's still utterly horrid when I have more than two enemies fighting me. The game has CRASHED on me TWICE. It's funny, because the actual graphics are rubbish and don't look very tasking at all. The 3D also looks blah.
Something NOBODY seems to mention- the storytelling is TERRIBLE! You can skip can skip cutscenes, though then you'll miss the narrative. It's not that the story is bad, it actually sounds good on paper, but the writing that's meant to propel it is... Horrible... Boring... Zzzzz...
The biggest problem is the combat is horrible now. They added a huge emphasis on some very badly done platforming, and the fighting has been dumbed down insufferably. It's so easy now, right down to enemies having a bad, spotty AI. And the whole thing has a lack of polish as well... Lots of invisible walls... Glitches... Aforementioned lags and system resetting...
Another thing to point out is that there is little incentive to replay now. In the original you could just go have fun running through levels to level up, or heck, even enjoy just clocking some awesome times, but because the combat is so bad this game you won't feel motivated to come back. I stopped right after I got 100%(which, by the way, took 11 hours for me- the same time as the original), I only came back on to register Sprocket so I could level her later... Which I still haven't done even though I finished every Heroic, bought every upgrade, finished every Quest, and got 65000 Gold with her on the console version already...
The good parts... Um... There aren't that many. The best parts pretty much cap at mediocre, or slightly better than mediocre. I guess a couple of things are hidden in a bit tricky to find spots, but still nothing is as difficult as the original was(remember Avoid The Slicers?). And the levels are not much less linear. A couple of levels have good ideas behind their design concept. But it's really just all... Bleh, in the end.
Overall, seems like a cheap cash grab to ride on the love of the original 3DS version, and the franchise in general. Avoid. Completely mediocre and forgettable.
There are a couple of parts where it truly had potential to shine, and there are some parts that are actually fairly enjoyable, but everything else just lacks polish, is very boring, or was just not well excecuted.
If you need to pick between them, just buy the console version, the 3DS one is solidly bad now. It's a shame because the original was actually my second favorite 3DS game(under Uprising).

Edit: I've been playing it a bit more and I've changed my mind about it though albeit only somewhat. I've grown accustomed to the more explor-y and large-level design Giants has now.
However, I have to say a few things: one, this is not good for a game that is meant to be for on-the-go play. The levels take obnoxiously long compared to what they should. I mean that the shortest one probably takes more time than some of the middle-length ones of the original. I'm not saying "this system is not as good as the original therefore it is a bad change", but in this case it really is a bad change and it means the levels merely drag on if you replay them a ton. Also notably, getting good time trial scores is now far less dependent on defeating enemies since there are a ton less which makes time trials borderline boring... And not much more nice than just playing the levels normally...
Secondly: I get the impression I am only enjoying this now because I am a Skylanders fan. I own every single figure and sealed versions of every single pack(besides game packs and variants). I own Jin Saotome's Tech Portal and Sprocket customs. For those of you who do not own or frequently buy the figures there is little to be had here. The only reason I am playing is because it is a good checklist for getting everyone to Level 15, but even then I actually prefer leveling on the console version much more and I'm only doing it here because then I don't do it so randomly from constant switching(via Wii/Wii U some of my figures are stuck at level 8 and some at 11 and 6 and a few at 15, etc.- was just getting tired of seeing it half-baked).
Basically, it's a question of wether you buy a lot of the figures, the answer will pretty much dictate wether you'll like Giants 3DS, and even if it's "yes" you may find this a mediocre game. The setup itself is bad and leveling up is pretty much the only reason to consider it, which is something only the hardcores are likely to appreciate anyway.

Don't forget in Giants the Giants cost more money than regular figures... HOWEVER-
You only need eight of the figures to 100% the game. One from every of the Eight Elements plus a Giant(which can at the same time count as one of those eight).
So let's see, if you bought Starter Pack Giants on the console for $70 which I believe is the RRP for it now, you get Tree Rex the Life Giant, Cynder the Undead dragon and Jet-Vac the Air birdthingy, covering 3/8 Elements. Triple Packs in Aus are, I believe, $25 at the moment which means you can buy Triple LightCore Prism Break/LightCore Eruptor/LightCore Drobot and Triple Gill Grunt/Flashwing/Double Trouble for around $50.
Not factoring in Adventure Packs which are discontinued right now anyway (AND can be used to fill in the gaps for Earth/Water/Fire/Undead, thus leaving you miffed of Tech and Magic which you can fulfill with Triple Pop Fizz/Whirlwind/Trigger Happy) saying that you need to pay $160 on top of the game to access the rest of the locked areas is a huge exaggeration. Also, the figures tend to go on sale a lot as well.
However, as an avid fan and the original Sprocket fanbrat I will say this: it's not really worth that much either unless you really, really love it
