EDIT: My own European 3DS XL and my Japanese DSi XL. Don't ask where I got the Japanese DSi, though...

i can show you my DIY-bumpers to protect my top screen from touching the edges of the bottom screen. other than that it looks like every other standart cosmo black 3DS. got it on launch from gamestop.

I have quite a story with 3DS, got the regular metallic red one back in January 2012, then shortly upgraded to the normal red XL in August 2012 (where a retailer was offering that if you give in your regular, you get the XL for free), and then in October 2013, my brother got this 3DS XL, but after a few days, changed his mind to later get the Zelda one, so I paid him a bit for it and gave him the rest through selling my XL. Well, aside from my ramblings, here is mine:

I didn't know XL's came in metallic versions. I must have missed all the news headlines when that was announced. Or forgot.

To be honest I prefer my handhelds glossy. Not that I would buy an XL right now anyway. I'm waiting on the New 3DS (which coincidentally the XL version will be glossy)
