Topic: Should the 3DS have been delayed until May...?

As most people should know, the first major update won't be available until late May which will allow the Internet Browser, eShop, downloadable titles, system transfer, data management and probably a whole bunch more.

I just want to see everyones opinions on this, because personally releasing it 2 months before everything else is ready to be unleashed to the public sounds a bit strange since at E3 we would have the eShop, Internet Browser etc. but can't access any of it until 2 months down the line.

I understand they want to make sure the eShop and other functions are perfect because of their attempts with DSiWare and WiiWare. But I would probably of released the 3DS once everything was in place, all functions were in place and ready to be used right from the start, and then update it afterwards if need be rather than faffing around with a massive update that might just blow the machine.

I feel as if Nintendo ruined the 3DS ever so slightly by forcing us to wait to use our 3DS to the complete maximum when they could have easily delayed it for 2 months longer and released it with all that awesome in one little bow.

So, after my rant of sorts, what do you guys think?

Well it's too late now, so what's the point of wondering?

No. Even though the system doesn't quite feel "complete" without the big May update, I'm happy Nintendo rolled it out within the time frame promised for those of us who simply could not wait to get our hands on the thing (Me!). The way I look at it, Nintendo launched half a 3DS on March 27th with the second half following 2 months later. Its better than not having anything between March and May.

Because I find it rather odd that Nintendo would release the great big fat chunky stuff 2 months down the line when they could of simply delayed it for a little while.

The eShop and other things were the only things that really attracted me to the 3DS, and with that much of a selling point, why let us wait 2 months for it...?

Especially since DSiWare and the Browser were available from the start, sure they were pretty god awful, but at least they were there. It feels as if Nintendo stripped the 3DS to the bone and made us wait for the juicy bits.

EDIT: I see what you mean bboy, but its like being given half a house, given it to us and then waiting 2 months for the rest of it to be put up.

There might not of been anything between March - May, but at least when everything was ready, that big ol' chunky 3DS would be ours with all the bells and whistles rather than waiting to add the bells and whistles.

It should be delayed until whenever they can support the system with a decent new game. Or at least the features it is supposed to come with...

If the future didn't look so bleak though, I could look past the pathetic launch. >.>

Well then, why don't they just pull it out of stores now and release it later then huh? Oh wait no that's dumb.

Edit: No wait, go back in the past and then tell Nintendo to do such before it releases.

But as for now there's nothing they can change sooooo...

Too many easily pleased consumers have already purchased it.

Great idea though, I like where your head's at.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying they should've just waited before releasing with bare bones amount of content. This would also give developers time to work on their games, because to be honest, the 3DSs launch line-up was pretty awful.

Well how Nintendo was going about it, it kinda was and still is. It felt more like a rush release than anything else, get it out, get some money even though it had pretty much nothing going for it. Except for a few good games here and there and some AR cards... and then expected us to wait 2 months before we could get that all important eShop and other functions?

Especially waiting around for 2 months to play my DSiWare games on my 3DS... I don't want to be carrying around my 3DS and DSi incase I want to suddenly play a DSiWare game or a 3DS game. Where the hell is the logic in that?

I think they should have waited to release the full product. It would have received better reviews, better release day titles might have been available and it would have given them more time to work out glitches. It is what it is though. They took a gamble on releasing an incomplete product with the promise of a complete product soon via an update and it was our choice knowing the facts to decide whether or not we wanted to buy it. Bottom line, if we wanted a May release date we should have held off until May to purchase one. Case closed.
