you could download the game and every 3 days the system could prompt you to put the gamecard in just to confirm you have it(if its lost and you cant do the test, just say LATER and then it will keep your save but you cant play it.
On one hand, yes. After all, you bought the retail version you should be entitled to download the digital version for free yes? On the other hand, no. Consumers these days are looking for a cheap way of getting entertainment, doing this instantly gives them a free game, they take it back to the store and get in-store credit. The only one losing out here is the developer of said game.
However, there must be a way to give the consumer the digital code without risking the inevitable trade in and get a game free scenario, unfortunately no matter how hard you look, there is no way around it because you generally can't trust people. But to be honest, this shouldn't happen... ever. If you want the digital version you buy the digital version, if you want the game card then go buy it from a retailer. Simples.
Valve gifted Portal 2 for PC with Portal 2 for PS3. Some people used to buy the PS3 cersion, use the code and resell the PS3 game. Cheap PC Portal 2. That's the reason they will never ever do it.
