Topic: Should Nintendo quit the 3DS?

I know this is really odd seeing that the 3DS is a beast right now but after seeing these ridiculous adds that say that Nintendo needs to put their games on smartphones, Its really beginning to bother me especially the fact that the smartphones have a way to play Nintendo games (You know what I mean).

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Take it easy, Champ. Why don't you stop talking for a while?

Yeah, sit the next couple plays out, if you know what I mean.

I really don't think phones will ever be able to able to play Nintendo's games truthfully, not without something like this.

I know right? Its like someone purposefully made this and thought immediately that since everyone has a smartphone, what makes the 3DS so special???? Really IGN....

This is a stupid idea unless Nintendo wants to stop making systems of their own. It's really as simple as that.

At best, maybe they could put older games or demos of newer games that have clever ads of new games IN them or something, but anything else would be a stupid idea. Especially considering how much Nintendo can't rely on 3rd parties for their own consoles.

also between the numbers I've seen suggesting iOS and mobile is a relatively small amount of the actual profit for games in total, and indies being more interested in even the Vita apparently...might not be the best place for long term growth I'm just saying.

no, they should quit the Wii U (well they shouldn't quit that either even if supporting it would lose them money since quitting it would cost them consumer confidence forever)

Try not to let it bother you. This is just noise suits are making right now because they think the grass is greener elsewhere. Nintendo owns the dedicated handheld gaming market for a reason, they simply don't make the type of games that could thrive on smartphones/tablets. The suits don't seem to see the difference and unfortunately it's probably going to take a company pulling out the console market to chase down the phone market and fall flat on it's face for them to see that. Let's just hope that company isn't Nintendo.

I have a 3DS AND a smartphone guess which one I use the most!
hint 1: 14% of my phone's battery is wasted on idle mode, 12% on cell standby, 16% on screen brightness(it lights up every time I receive notifications) and 22% by the system itself, that is, +-64% goes away without me even using it
hint 2: got over 30 hours of Fire Emblem Awakening bought it a little more than a week ago.
hint 3: MH3U

I didn't even need so many hints the first was enough

Is this another "cell phones are killing dedicated handhelds!" thread?

I have a phone, of course, but I don't really play much on it. It's invaluable to me, but not as a gaming device.

I'm pretty sure phones can't play 3DS or Wii U games. Heck, I don't even see how they could play DS games!

don't say that! the "nintendo should charge more for VC games that a rare(rare downloads)" thread seemed dumb but was a super awesome madness, a great thread indeed! this one has the same potential!

Yea...phone games. Where your controller is the screen? Gotta love those - they're definitely far from the worst controller method! I mean talk about precision. Nintendo would definitely get out of financial trouble if it starting selling 99p titles on phones. I mean the 3DS is actually their own hardware and doing well, but its about time we stopped pretending its working out I suppose. Besides, console gamers love phone games right? #SarcasmOverload

So you would stop making a device that is able to do this.

There's no reason for Nintendo to make mobile games when the 3DS is doing so well. Anyone who says they should WANTS them to fail, as the 3DS is Nintendo's main source of profit right now.

That said, if Apple wants in on the gaming industry (which they've shown no interest in so far, but still), then they'd have to do something about the fact that iPhones and iPads have no buttons or control sticks, which goes against everything they've made those devices out to be so far. Then again, haptic technology is starting to catch on as we can see with the Steam Controller. If iPads gave you the impression that buttons were there without them actually being there, that could work pretty well.

I think eventually every game developer is going to be third party. Eventually, people will consider it completely unreasonable that certain games could only play on certain systems, as much as it's unreasonable today that certain DVDs or Blu-Rays could only play on players made by certain manufacturers. A game may still be exclusive to a controller, and certain controllers may be exclusive to certain devices, but in terms of hardware exclusivity, we're about to reach a point where anything more powerful than the PS4 is pointless, as most people can't even tell the difference. Nintendo sees this coming, and responded by stunting the hardware of the Wii so that they'd be 'a generation behind', which means they'll get at least one more stubborn hardware generation than everyone else in the end.
