Topic: Should I get the 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, or the New 3DS XL?

Which version of the 3DS should I pick up as a first timer to Nintendo as a whole? The obvious choice seems to be between the New 3DS and the New 3DS XL, but I don't have any knowledge of Nintendo handhelds/consoles.

Thanks for any help!

The only real difference between the New 3DS and New 3DS XL is that the XL is larger, of course, but it's pricier and doesn't include the decorative faceplates you can buy seperately to personalize your system. Personally, the faceplates don't matter to me, though.

There is a somewhat bigger difference between the regular 3DS models and the New 3DS models. The New 3DS has improved 3D, to where you can tilt the screen and still see the 3D effect pretty clearly from most angles, whereas you need to keep the regular 3DS pretty still and directly in front of you so the 3D won't look wonky. Also, the New 3DS can run a few games the regular model isn't powerful enough to run, the most notable example being Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but that's pretty much the only one so far.

The New 3DS also has built-in NFC functionality, unlike the basic models. If you're familiar with amiibo (Nintendo's range of toys-to-life figurines similar to that of Skylanders or Disney Infinity), you'll either need a New 3DS system or buy a $20 NFC reader sold seperately for the original 3DS if you want to use amiibo in different games. The New 3DS's also have a much faster processor, to load things more quickly.

One drawback to getting one of the New 3DS models is that, unlike the regular models, they do not come with a charger, for whatever reason, and you'll have to buy that seperately. Another slight nuisance is that the New 3DS only uses Micro SD cards, and if you want to take one out or put one in, you have to unscrew the back of the system every time. (All 3DS models come with an SD or Micro SD card, so you won't have to worry about buying one.)

I think that's pretty much all of the technical aspects. Personally, if I were you, I'd go with one of the XL's, as I prefer a larger screen that's less strenuous on the eyes. As for whether or not you should get a New model, that's hard for me to say. The New 3DS XL might be your best bet, if you're willing to spend the extra money and buy the seperately-sold charger, to get the absolute most out of the 3DS experience. Anyways, hope this helps, and happy gaming!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the New 3DS and New 3DS XL also have the extra ZL and ZR buttons and the C-stick for rotating the camera. None of these new buttons are really that big a deal, in my opinion, or at least not enough to sway you one way or another, although the C-stick is a pretty neat feature.

Does the C-Stick makes a huge difference in games like Metal Gear or Kid Icarus Uprising?

Thanks! It helped a lot. I think I'll get at LEAST the New 3DS, especially for that C-Stick.
Whilst not really comparable, I used to have a PSP GO with Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite, and using the camera on there was a pain.
