Topic: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5

Alright, so I just watched a Let's Play of Persona 4: Golden, and I instantly became a huge fan of the game. I would like to buy it, but since it's on the Vita, I wont, and I wont buy the console for just one game. The reason I'm making this thread here, is because I hope that it will be released on the 3DS. The fact that Shin Megami Tensei IV got released a while ago in the US, and that Nintendo and Atlus will work together for the special SMT x Fire Emblem game, raises the possibility for it to be released on the 3DS.
I read that someone thought the announcement of the game might be just a few months away, and I hope that's true!
Anyway, the Persona series isn't exclusive to Sony consoles, right..? I'm sad that Persona 4 never came to 3DS, but that would probably kill the Vita, like a sword thrust through the heart :/

Persona 5 will probably be a PS3/360/One/PS4 game with a Vita port a few years later.

irrc one of the chief reasons Catherine was made was to get the Persona team familiar with that hardware.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on Wii U just because of how close Nintendo apparently is with Atlus lately but yeah, not 3DS.

At this point, I would say its unlikely. Persona has been on Playstation, except for Persona 4 Arena for 360. They could probably make Persona 5 for 3ds if Nintendo bought out Atlus and Persona 5 wasn't in development. That being said, from the little Atlus has said about Persona 5, it's been in development for at least 2 years, and is being tailored towards the ps3/360 (maybe 360). Atlus couldn't get a big enough consumer base for ps4/one. As much as I would love for Persona games to be on Nintendo platforms, it seems quite unlikely now. You have to remember that atlus is a SMALL company in comparison to, say, Square Enix. They wouldn't do a 180 and move to 3ds/Wii U, because it would mainly alienate its fans, which is of course bad for buisiness. Imagine your predicament, only for a majority of Persona fans (not all, just a lot). Its quite odd, since almost all other recent smt games have been on nintendo platforms, but thats the way it is. If you really want to play Persona 4, you could probably find a used ps2 cheap on the internet or a garage sale. Persona 4 for ps2 is only 20$ on Amazon. Also, since you've noticed Persona 4, I would highly recomend Persona 3, Fes.

Shin Megami 4 just came out on 3DS btw, not awhile ago. There's no news on a Persona 5, but it would most likely be Sony bound. I recently traded a laptop for a Vita just to play Persona 4 and it's amazing. Vita losing Persona as an exclusive wouldn't "kill" it though, lol. Vita is it's own thing... Vita is to 3DS what PSP was to DS — great secondary handheld but won't make a dent on Nintendo.

These were games that were said to be in development from Nintendo and 3rd parties during E3 2010. Look at Atlus. I see Persona on there.

Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me to see Persona 5 be a 3DS exclusive. Atlus is familiar with the hardware, and it's not like they don't want to put their major games on handhelds (just look at SMT 4). Most Atlus fans likely already own a 3DS, since pretty much all of their major JRPGs have been on the platform as of late, so it probably wouldn't alienate fans, either.

Well frankly if you have a PS2 you can just get Persona 4 on it.. that being said.. there are certain things to Golden.. btu really it's like owning Final Fantasy Tactics on PS.. and then seeing it released on PSP.. it's an upgrade.. but not so much.. that you should buy a Vita for it.. now.. that and Dragons Crown.. maybe.. but even that would be a tough sale..Persona 4 might get a HD version on Wii U.. if Atlus is bought by Nintendo or Sega which would totally rule.. and you might see a part 5.. but personally.. I would hope they make a Tensei 5 first.. since Persona is a spin off of it.. (Though ironically there seems to be people who thinks it's the other way around.. since 4 Persona's.. and Tensei 4 just released.)

@moomoo Very interesting! Also, isn't it funny how all four games, except Persona, have been released on 3DS already? And as @nerdydan said, they have been working on it for a few years. I think there's a VERY high chance that Persona 5 will be announced for 3DS soon! Thanks for all the info!

This isn't really a hint, but a lot of people in the comments say "Persona 5!", and I believe that is one of them. I believe it has been confirmed that it has been in development since 2010, so Persona 5 is indeed highly possible! Now to just hope it releases on 3DS!

Better Idea bring it to the Wii U.. we can use some RPG love... for our console.. (Not that I won't take it on 3DS just saying)

Unless Nintendo buys Atlus, Persona is going to be a Sony game. I bet it is headed for PS3.

Sony, SEGA, and Nintendo is competing on who to buy Atlus. If Sony gets Atlus then we all say "bye bye", if SEGA gets Atlus well, let's hope that they don't (if they do, there's still a possibility that P5 will be ported to Nintendo consoles). If Nintendo gets Atlus, then let's all have a party
