I have bought for my son a 3DS XL Super Mario 3D Land limited edition for Christmas. I decided, after reading that the included 4gb memory card can be changed for an SDXC once formatted to FAT32. I have done this, swapped over the content and everything seems fine. The only gripe I have is that when I enter the data management, I only have 42,000 blocks, or thereabouts? The card is a 64gb and I have not added any additional content to it. Does the amount of free block seem appropriate given the size of the card, or should there be considerably more?

Many thanks!!
Don't use SDXC cards, as they corrupt easily. I use a 8GB one and it works wonders.

According to the instruction booklet, the system supports SD cards up to 2 GB and SDHC up to 32 GB. It does not support SDXC.
Well I just formated my 64GB XC sd card to Fat32 it was initially exFAT(fat64) i googled for a 3rd party program since my computer could only format it to NTSF.
just google "exFAT to FAT32". As of now I dont know if I can fill all the blocks but over 400,000 is available after I copied my files from my 8GB card to it.
For the record, it's easy to convert blocks into MB or GB. 8 blocks = 1MB, so 42,000 blocks is 5,250 MB or about 5 GB. Double check the size of your card and that it doesn't have anything else substantial on it, as unless you have downloaded several large eShop games, a 64 GB card should have far more free space than that.
You can use an SDXC on the 3DS as long as you format it to FAT32 (or whatever it is), however its probably best just to stick with a 32GB. I have one an I've barely reached half-way yet.
Why would you need anything more than 32 GB anyway. Unless you do what I do and get AVI videos to run on your 3DS, it's not like you'll run out of space any time soon unless you download the entire Eshop. You could download more than 30 FULL games on your 3DS. What more could you possibly need? I don't plan on downloading that many games just for my 3DS.

From what I've heard, SDXC cards formatted to FAT32 can run in 3DSs, but they're prone to crashing and wiping out all data. It's probably better to stick with SD/HC Cards for this matter, unless you've like downloaded every retail 3DS game from the eShop. Even then, I think swapping SD Cards would be better than an FAT32 SDXC.
