I had to sell my 3DS before Christmas in order to get presents for my kids, but with my tax return I'm picking up a New 3DS XL (a new new?). I've googled with no luck so here is my question: are 3DS saves tied to a Network ID or profile like the Wii U saves are?

I've had to do a Network ID transfer on my Wii U before and until the transfer you don't have an ID attached. When they transfer over your ID anything you've done is erased. Will this work the same way on 3DS? Has anyone had this issue? I would just hate to go to midnight launch and play Zelda all weekend for my request to be processed come Monday and lose all my progress.

No. 3DS saves differently than the Wii U. If you buy physically, the 3DS saves to the card itself. If you buy digitally, it saves to the SD card, not tied to a profile.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
