Topic: (RUMOR) -- Nintendo To Introduce Feature To Allow Streaming Of Wii U Games To New 3DS?

I don't believe this will happen because the 3DS wouldn't handle the graphics of the Wii U (Opinion) and many other things as Well. Plus H264 format is used in the new browser for HTML 5 video format & there would be no point in using the gamepad. (think about it) That being said, this is just one of those "oh OK".

Summary - Hackers have found out that the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL include a video decoder that supports H264, which is the same video format used to stream Wii U content to the GamePad. Based on this, some are speculating that Nintendo will eventually introduce a feature that will allow the new hand-held devices to stream Wii U games. New 3DS XL will launch in North America on February 13th.

Well I'm not sure exactly what they're suggesting but I doubt the 3DS specs would be the issue. If they did anything like that, it wouldn't be the 3DS running the game. I imagine they'd mean either just the 3DS replacing the gamepad, for whatever reason. Or they'd mean something like that OnLive thing on PC.
So it's not really about the 3DS specs, it's more about your internet connection. You're just sending keypresses over the internet and the game, being run remotely, just sends you back the resulting video. If they get something like that running, the actual specs of the device being played remotely would be irrelevant. All that would matter would be the resolution and fps you're getting the video back in.

From memory the New 3DS only uses 802.11g at 2.4 GHz, I doubt this would be good enough to do this, so I think it's very unlikely. If they'd upgraded it to use 802.11n and 5 GHz wifi I'd put more credence in it.

It goes both ways, Specs & Internet.

I agree, that's like Sony doing this on a Ps3. Allowing you to play PS4 games on the Ps3. It's not possible.

How so? As far as I can tell, the only specs needed would be to render a streaming video.

Could this mean they're letting the New 3DS act as a GamePad? That sounds believable to me, as now the system has all the button inputs a GamePad has. I'd actually really like to see this happen, if it's possible.

Not really. The Vita can remotely play PS4 games just fine.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Actually, the 3DS is still a coulple of inputs short of the gamepad, specifically the analog stick buttons.

But it's possible to use the 3ds as a controller in smash (with the smash game).
In februari there will be a update for smash 3ds, with amiibo and maybe more.

I was thinking the new C-Stick on the New 3DS.

Edit: You're right, I forgot they can also be clicked. I've never actually had to use that button though.

The DS was able to connect with the Wii in many ways such as Battle Revolution (ugh...) and My Pokemon Ranch (at least they apologized with a Mew). It's not really that special to be honest.

would be a great way to get multiplayer gamepad gaming without having to buy a second gamepad - for those with the 3DS, of course. pretty nice idea, Nintendo idea

So it has a video player which somehow turns into "it can stream Wii U games." My ignorance of technology set aside, this looks like a 2 + 2 = 6 rumor

The most important thing nobody has said should be: who would want to play a Wii U game in 400x240 resolution on a 3-4 inch screen? Playing on the GamePad already brings the quality down considerably.

Someone that owns a n3DS and doesn't own a Wii U that might be influenced to buy one if they could drop $100 off the price of the Wii U by foregoing the GamePad and allowing you to use your n3DS to set up the system. Assuming you're planning to play on your big screen anyway, no one is going to care about not having the full resolution of the GamePad. There would also be the advantage of allowing for 3D gameplay: I've found playing in 2D on the Wii U very lifeless after getting used to playing on the 3DS, and I would probably be willing to sacrifice resolution to be able to play Wii U games in 3D.

There's two problems with this. First, the n3DS can't simply emulate the Gamepad. It not only misses two buttons but the aspect ratios are wrong as well. Second, Wii U games won't magically turn 3D when played on the 3DS' screen, if they could do that in the first place.

Yeah lets stop being fanboys for a minute and think for a sec. The PS Vita Specs are a little bit higher, correct me if I'm wrong but I would say that the Vita can handle PS4....Unlike the 3DS (NEW) not so much. I mean who knows Nintendo is capable of doing crazy things.

Specs of the (NEW) 3DS — New 3DS specs:

  • ARM11 MPCore 4x @ 268MHz (one reserved for OS)
  • 4x VFPv2 Co-Processor (vector processors, like SPEs in PS3)
  • 256MB FCRAM
  • 10MB VRAM
  • Dedicated Hardware Video Decoder

Some specs of the PS Vita (Main important ones CPU & GPU) — CPUARM® Cortex™- A9 core (4 core)
GPUSGX543MP4+

Link to the specs — http://us.playstation.com/psvita/tech-specs/
