No reason to be annoyed over this, it's just a free option for the 10% who end up buying the same game twice, Nintendo isn't requiring you start buying your games twice.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I meant transferring your Real Copy into your 3DS/XL, it should have been free, I should not have too buy the digital version as well.

I don't think getting the digital copy should be free, but I think you should get, say, a 30-50% discount. That's the most you'll make back selling it pre-owned likely.

This is a signature.
Link goes here now.
Screw you.

So what you're saying is you should get a second copy of the game for free?

Both copies are real, it's just basically changing the card it's on(3DS specific card to SD card), and you don't have to buy it twice.
There is no way they are going to let you copy a full retail game to an SD card, then just sell the game card.
The only way that would work is if it deactivated the game card to prevent people from buying it, copying it, then selling it and still have the game. Then you can carry around the 3DS with the copied game, but if you ever want to sell it, you have to reactivate the game card which would delete your digital copy.
Even that is a flawed system for the most part, considering tons of people would probably get ripped off by second hand sellers if they can't test the game card and verify it does have the game on there.
We would most likely see tons on empty cartridges floating around with no data if that ever happened, with alot of unhappy people.

EDIT: BTW, SD card is VERY accessible for devices, which is why Nintendo uses them. PS Vita uses crazy exclusive memory cards that do pretty much the same thing at way higher price.

@Robo-Knight Well then I could buy a new retail release for $40, get the digital version, and sell the retail cart. Until there is a foolproof way to get around it, don't expect it. And like @SCAR392 said, they're both real, the SD card just let's you have multiple games on one "cart".

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.

come on now, guys — what if you decide to pick up an XL later on that comes with a free download of something you'd already purchased before, and you wouldn't mind reselling the cartridge version but don't want to lose your saves. or how about if you qualified for some sort of promotion, but the only games they were giving for free were games you'd already purchased cartridges for. wouldn't you like to have the option to have your main save file(s) available on the go?

i think i said in another thread that i'm already considering purchasing a digital copy of Code of Princess (if it's available in the NA eShop) and copying over my own save information since my husband wants to play it but I don't want to lose my own progress — it's an expensive option, but Atlus games tend to be rare anyway so i'd probably be paying full price for a second copy of the game anyway, and this way i get to keep my collected weapons and stats that i worked so hard for. what I'm wondering is whether it's an all-or-nothing sort of thing (if a game has three save slots, can you only transfer all three at once, or can you pick and choose?), whether it completely rewrites the saves on the downloadable version or you can back those up on your computer and just recopy over the version on your SD card as you please), and also whether it goes both ways (where you could pass on your saves to a little brother or something who has the cartridge and you have the downloaded version, for example). has anyone tried it yet? or does anyone know?

Well that's a good point. I can't see myself ever using this tool, but I'm sure it's useful to others. That's a really good point; I never thought of that. Although I would like it better if you could get the digital version of a game free if you own the retail version of a game, I guess this could still be useful to some.

Why should you get the digital version of the game for free? You wouldn't have got the retail if you wanted the digital or vice-versa. Plus people who rent games would end up with the digital copy and Nintendo will lose money. Now that doesn't make sense.

Guys keep in mind certain 1st party games didn't come out digitally at first. There were people who rather have 1st party games like Mario 3d land or Zelda as a digital version, and play it anytime without carrying or looking for the card. Nintendo created this tool as an option so that gamers didn't have to lose their save data or allow them to continue with their save data. That's all it is an OPTION. They're not forcing you to buy another copy of the game. If you're happy with what you have, then continue with it.

I do agree that it should work both ways, but maybe that's just something just something that can't happen with the card, as the save data only stays on the card and not the system.

The true fix to this is allowing data stay on the system instead of the card, but once again happy to have the OPTION of this tool.
