Topic: Restoring save data from a cart to another cart

Hello all,

I am very sad. Due some problems, I will have to sell all my current collection of Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS games. But, I can recollect them in the future. The problem is the saves - the games progress - I am very attached to it.

I have read that somehow you can backup you save files to a PC, then restore the save data in a new cartdrige. Maybe using some sort of Action Replay.

Can someone post a exact tutorial of how this can be done and what, specifically, Action Replay can used to do so? It is possible with both DS and 3DS games or just DS?

Thank you very much all who help me on this,

Evermore

Quite literally, I just got off the phone an hour ago with Nintendo Customer Service about a similar issue. Here's what I know: the data that can be transferred between two 3DS (and 3DS only) game carts is that data tied directly to the system's SD Card (that means StreetPass data, extra data I.e. bought DLC and patches, and Extra Data ONLY). All other data, including game progress saves, cannot be preserved between cartridge games. Data saved to the SD Card is the only type of data that can be backed up. All of this applies only to 3DS titles; you're out of luck in regards to preserving DS cartridge data.

As for using an Action Replay to back up data, I can't help you with that for two reasons. 1. I don't own/use one, so I have no idea how that would work, and 2. Due to the prevalent use of Action Replays amongst people for illegal purposes (piracy, cheating), discussing them violates this site's terms of use; you'll have to go elsewhere on the Internet to discuss them. However, I'd recommend that you don't use an Action Replay on your 3DS; Nintendo has been proactive in releasing updates that brick users' 3DSs who pirate games, and who knows if/when using an Action Replay will brick your system.

Exactly.

Action Replay can't be used to do anything illegal (though it can pontentially ruin your save files/game cards if you use it wrong), and it doesn't even work with 3DS games so don't worry about it.

If you know how to use it for DS games, please e-mail me.

Sorry, but I don't have one so I don't know the details on how to use them, but I'm sure you can use google to find that kinda information.

I'd also recommend not sharing your email around like that to random people in random internet forums.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but action replays cannot back up saves, and is just a cheating device(as far as I know, I used to have one from about 2007-2010). There is another device I had which can, but it's against site TOS to talk about it, and I don't remember what it was because it's long lost anyway.

This is currently inaccurate. You can back up games with a powersaves pro action replay, in the spirit of "one copy of data for archival purposes" . Restoring it to another cartridge though...that might not work. Results in corrupted game saves for me. A shame, because you can't have a backup of, say, your Animal Crossing save to restore in case your cat eats it. Some games may allow this, or maybe it works now - but it didn't personally work for me.

It can be used to cheat, but you shouldn't because it has the very real chance to ruin your game.
