I don't see a choice for this short of doing a wipe which isn't going to happen.
Does anyone here have a menu on their 3DS that still has the stock layout of the icons and at what depth (ie: was it 3 boxes high?) I can see in a picture or have written out?
I just want to restore how it used to look originally. With all the new icons coming in from those now 20 ambassador games and the rest I want to organize things a little better and it bugs me there's no restore function for that.

It was 2 Boxes High. Look up early videos to see the layout of the icons. Though my question to you is: How did they change? Did you pick an option that made them organize in alphabetical order or something?
Because of the 10 NES games I got and other stuff it got harder/more annoying to manage so I set it down to micro sized 5 deep. Problem is the menu is sort of lousy on the device in that when you resize it jacks all your icons around so I lost track of what goes where. That's why I was asking.
I think it's a shame with the advancements they've made right up to the queued downloads they don't have better management where you an do clusters, A to Z, and at the least when resizing to move the icons to the same relative location.
That image pops up a link saying Forbidden for some reason.

I have a recently wiped 3DS. The initial view is a single row with the icons in this order: Health & Safety Game Card Camera Sound Mii Maker Mii Plaza eShop AR Games Face Raiders Activity Log Download Play System Settings

Thank you, now that's what I was looking for exactly — the order. Now I can re-shuffle the menu to the size I like and put it back in order, then go out from there with the added apps and stuff since.

Does it really matter what the original order was? Couldn't you just take this as an oppurtunity to rearrange them however you like them best?
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I changed my order around to how I like it. I have my game card and then all the different applications and pre-installed games, then I have my 3DSWare, GBA games, GBC game, NES games, DSiWare, Videos, Ambassador Certificate and then lastly the Health and Safety Information.

Because maybe I want the default icons set to factory organization. Everything else beyond that is by my choosing but I just liked the original layout as it made sense.

If you reach the end of the 3DS menu with no more empty spaces, does the menu expand?
It certainly does. I forget how many slots it had at first, but when it's starting to fill up the number of slots doubles. I currently have 120 and I have 45 slots left, so I'm curious to find out whether it's going to double again to 240 slots when It's filling up or go to 180 or what.

Actually, it's pretty simple, when you decrease the size of the icons, if you watch closely, they get rearranged in columns, from top to bottom. Kind of like how japanese people write.
Yeah I've noticed that, so each time you change something if you organized it left to right it's all offset by one and diagonally too as it scales down to less squares (I had it at the smallest which was 6.) Going up/down though as Japanese write, it's staying static and I'm comfortable enough with Japanese to handle that.

I thought that was pretty obvious, seeing as you have to scroll to the right to reach the rest of your icons. It might confuse people who haven't yet filled up the screen at whatever sizes they're switching between, though.

@BenAV & Others - After about an hour of tediously re-downloading videos and DSiWare from the eShop (and subsequently copying and removing DSiWare to maximize the number in the System Memory), I can safely say that, when you get close to having 120 items on your 3DS's Home Menu, the menu expands to accommodate up to 180 titles. So, beyond that, it'll most likely continue expanding by 60 to fit however much stuff you have in your System Memory/on your SD card.
