Remember, in certain games (ahem... Animal Crossing: New Leaf...) you can get special items with Play Coins.
You get Play Coins by walking with your 3DS in Sleep Mode. 100 steps = 1 Coin. You can get up to 10 Coins a day. You can speed up the process by shaking it.
Be sure to shake your 3DS like it owes you money (because it kind-of does).

I hate ped-o-meter cheating >.< Work those legs, feel the burn
But seriously, 1000 steps a day is perfectly doable and if its just around the house. Ill get mine mostly on may way to work and back home or on shopping trips. And for these shiny nintendo items, im more than willing to walk a few steps

I tried shaking the 3DS, and it hardly registered coins. I think I fear damaging it. Walking does the trick, but of course limited to the 10 coins a day.
Sorry, but I support Nintendo's move to get kids to be more active. The 1000 steps is a great way to get your daily exercise. If I don't have enough coins, that's a clear indicator that I need to get off my fat bum and start walking.
Stay safe, kids: Make sure to save frequently during multiplayer, and always use a stylus!
do you all seriously take your 3DS with you whereever you go?
i always leave it at home... i hate carrying stuff with me... wallet, smartphone, etc. that's enough
couldn't care less about coins, streetpass, etc. i just wanna play the game... and if i actually end up needing coins, i just shake that thing -_-
I'm constantly at the limit of 300 coins. I didn't really use them at all recently. I take it everywhere with me, not because of the coins, but for the Street Pass hits (and actually having games with me when I'm out and about).
i tried shaking it but it take forever to get 10coins with that method. i rather take my 3ds with me when i go somewhere.
i always use the placoins immedietaly for that puzzle game and sometimes for that other quest

Then why buy a portable system in the first place ? The standard 3DS model easily fits in a pocket and the XL is no problem as long as you have some sort of rucksack or a messenger bag with you (i always travel with a messenger bag). My 3DS is almost always with me and on stand by to get street passes, coins and whatnot. Since our poppulace degraded to smartphone addicts and i hate sitting in a train, staring at people petting their phones there is nothing better to get a good book or my 3DS out and pass the time on my way back home from work

I just used to take my 3DS out whenever I went for a walk, then change the date once I'd got to a thousand steps/10 play coins. Didn't cause too many issues, and worked much better than trying to repeatedly shake the system.
My goodness. People are really so lazy that instead of walking they sit there and shake the system? And if it's that they don't want to take the 3DS out with them, why even bother having a handheld gaming system? That's the very point of it.
Seriously. I don't even pay attention to how many coins I get a day but I have never run out of them. Unless you are bedridden with a life threatening illness, a little walking won't kill you.
Feel free to add me on the Nintendo Network: ShadJV

First question: many people have XLs, which don't necessarily fit well in pockets.
Second question: because they want to play Nintendo games and the other games available on the system, which are not available on home consoles.
