You input the attacks during the battle like in tTales games, but some of the animations for just normal attacks are quite long. The FE part comes from the tile-based map where you move your characters, and there's some very basic strategy where you move the units. If you have enough XP that you get by attacking (which is also spent on team, support and super moves), when an opponent attacks you get the option of countering, defending or full defending (no damage dealt).

That actually sounds... incredibly interesting! I want this game now
Although I only know about six pairs of characters, and the rest will all be new to me.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
When you do play the demo, I wouldn't make it your basis of getting the game or not. In terms of vagueness and throwing you straight in without much explanation, it was very comparable to the Monster Hunter demo.

i have NO idea what was going on or what i was doing. i only knew those two street fighter characters and that's it i think.
i think the story is suppose to be total nonsense and just over the top and funny but the battlesystem doesnt make any sense to me either. i just randomly press the dpad and the A button to do attacks and then i press L to get some "solo" support and R to get some team support i think. and sometimes you can press Y to get some superattack with a special animation i think. i dont know. seriously i have no idea how that works. still i managed to beat the demo without any problems.
besides the totally confusing story and gameplay i adore the visuals and the sound. the animations of those 16-bit style character looks amazing. the 3D effect is kinda lame though. the music is typical japanese electro gaming music. love it. and the characters all speak in japanese. translation is only there through textboxes. japanese voices are really cool.
i will definetly download the second demo this thursday aswell but i will never buy the game, cuase like i said: NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON !!!
Ok, I downloaded and played the demo A version today and although I quite enjoyed it, I hardly had a clue what I was doing. I nearly defeated all enemies apart from this half naked devil angel women with black wings who was proper powerful. I hit her with combo's galore but hardly any damage was done, she took out 4 of my guys,

Oh now that helps! Thanks! Hm, sounds interesting.
I wish it would come out sooner than the 25th, I got bored of fire emblem and luigis mansion and i need something to play till shin megami tensei 4 comes out
I mean, I'm slightly worried that the combat will become incredibly repetitive but screw it! It's awesome. Like this is a genuine large amount of ridiculous fun that I rarely see in the genre (or sadly, a lot of crossovers). This gets my double triple recommendation of fun.
@kkslider5552000 Here is the difference. Most of these types of games dont even let you control the combat. That's where this game has the advantage!
I played it for a bit and its confusing but looks great and its fun. Ill figure it out better when I actually have the game in my hands but even then still feel like ill just do the same things over and over. Still happy I have control over the combat though!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I don't know who most of these characters are, and there is too little reintroduction to them for the newbies. The combat was great though, very cinematic, IMO.

That's probably because it was right in the middle of the story. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.
This thread just reminded me that I still have the demo.. e_e
I hope characters from Jet Set Radio are in the 2nd demo or the full game. One thing I really enjoyed was playing as Kite and Blacksrose from the .Hack series.
3DS games:
Mario Kart 7
Zelda OoT 3D
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
Pokemon Black FC: 2666 2484 8599
Kid Icarus Uprising
Heroes of Ruin
and more.

It was a bit too easy. I simply pressed the A button and next thing i know I won the battle when fighting one of the monsters. But I love the insane animations of the characters when fighting and I already pre-ordered the special edition because it was only $40.
yeah it's pretty easy. I didn't fail completely so it can't be particularly challenging.
The music was really good btw. Again, I didn't recognize pretty much any of the music outside of Sakura Wars and Street Fighter but it sounded really, really good.
On the combat: The screen at the beginning tells you the moves you can do, which are usually a direction + A. There's a bar at the bottom. Once that hits 100%, you can perform a super attack. That bar is also used to Defend, Completely Defend or Counter enemy attacks. If you time things properly, you can extend the combo while the enemy is falling by calling in either a solo assist (L button) or a nearby team assist (R button). Once either of those are called in, an X Attack icon may appear and you can call in the other type of assist for more damage.

The battle system is kind of hectic, but I think I got the gist of it. The animations are beautiful, and the game looks great in 3D. I think I'm going to enjoy this title.
Even though most of the characters are a dime a dozen and from a bunch of niche Japanese titles, the gameplay itself on offer here is quite enjoyable and the game will be worth buying on all of the beautiful pixel art alone!
