Doesn't matter really, since the two games are barely related, few characters and game mechanics aside. They don't reference one another at all. You shouldn't skip DD, though; that one has the stronger plot and funnier writing of the two, in my opinion, and, to top it off, is cheaper.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

Have you played any ace attorney games before...... if not I will say play this crossover which is a non-canon spinoff first if you can't wait then get the trilogy remaster that will be releasing soon then you can play dual destinies afterwards, you can also get apollo justice on DS if you wan to have the whole story before dual destinies

I've already reached Chapter 5 and I don't want this game to end! The Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright sections blend together so smoothly, it's as if the two were meant to be together. Although I haven't ventured into the Ace Attorney series yet, I shall immediately once the trilogy is released on the eShop. If another cross-over between the two is announced, there shall be no objections from me!

There is no puzzle without a solution!

I just got this game for Christmas, but I also just started the Trilogy (I have finished the first three cases of the original game, and I have played Justice for All before). Is there any reason such as story, character relations, or anything like that that I should play the Trilogy and maybe other games first, or is this one completely separate so I can go ahead and play it and not be in the dark about anything?

I completed it in around 3 or 4 days.
but I loved it! my favorite 3DS game(though I still didn't get to play the 3DS Professor Layton games, nor did I play PW: AA: Dual Destinies)

if you know Phoenix, Maya and(for one or two of the extra episodes) Edgeworth you know all you need to enjoy this game(on the Ace Attorney side of things, well it'd be good if you knew Godot, though there's only a remote reference to him in the first extra chapter and his name is never even mentioned)

Finished this a week ago. Fun game.

Loved Maya's heavy presence in this game.

The full solution to the mystery of Labyrinthia was even more absurd than the revelations at the end of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

I have yet to play Dual Destinies, but the trials were much more cinematic in this game than in previous AA games. The dynamic camera movement really helped set the mood during the trials. Also, I loved the rigorous manner in which magic was investigated. Hint coins made the trials too easy, though, and they were tempting to use because losing any credibility during a trial lost you a TON of picarats.

They didn't redub the game for Americans, which was annoying because I detest Luke's British VA.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

Do you think I need to simply know of Edgeworth (which I do) or really know the character? Because just in the three cases I've beaten he is becoming an awesome character who really changes and grows so I feel like there is going to be so much more to him that I don't know yet, especially since he has another entire game about him that I have never played yet.
