Eh, alot of games incooperate story with the game mechanics. It's just no matter what nintendo does we complain about it. If there is little gameplay and too much story/cinematics, we hate it (Metroid: Other M). If there is not enough story and too much focus on gameplay, we hate that as well (x/y, which lacked in both). Nintendo is just really pressured nowadays as unlike back during much better eras like gamecube, it's audience matured alot quicker than replaced with other younger audience (we have very young kids prefering COD now). As we mature, we get more demanding and observative which nintendo struggles hard to try and appeal when their main audience is a nearly none existant younger generation in today's era.

I see a big example of that in metroid other m.. other m was more toned down in comparison to prime, and I mean that in the language and highly intelligent speech in the prime games. When you scanned something, half the words a younger child would have to google to understand or pronounce.. other m tried to make the series more appealing to that age group by toning down every sentence into much more simple wording, but it became a disgrace to our veteran more mature metroid fans.

@MegaBeedrill The only reason Other M is hated is due to how Samus is treated which is significantly unlike her character with the other Metroid games. If she had her proper character from the other games I'd bet that it would be considered as good as the GC and SNES classics.

I haven't played any Pokemon game since beating White, so I'm certainly not entitled to bash on either XY or ORAS, but I've found myself almost totally uninterested in playing new Pokemon games in the last years. I've read, heard and seen a lot of things on every new Pokegame since B2W2 but I never felt I should have them, and even White gave me mixed feelings. However, I think I'll eventually pick up OR someday, or I might wait for this anticipated sequel to come out. In this regard, I think they're likely to do what they did with BW and produce two sequels (hopefully they won't reiterate the fusion thingy from B2W2, but who knows?), but obviously I might be wrong. The only thing I hope is they'll come up with something to make Zygarde's look acceptable like they did with Giratina for Platinum, though actually I'm a bit tired of alternate forms and stuff like that. Maybe they could've thought longer about Giratina's look before realizing it was too ugly to be on Platinum's boxart and consequentially creating another form. Okay, my rant is over

Seeing their current trend, they probably won't patch anything.

I think that's my biggest gripe with Nintendo(mostly) and Gamefreak(to a lesser extent) games. They don't make the story ALONGSIDE the mechanics, they make one AFTER, which seems really stupid and hinders it a lot. What they need to do is have one team of experience people working on the game mechanics, and ANOTHER team writing up a good and respectable story from the start, with communication between the two groups.

That is how most Game Design/Writing works. Sometimes there is a basic idea for story but the mechanics are made before the story is flushed out. If you take a look at games based off a show or movie or other media you can see parts where the mechanics are limited by the story, which hurts the experience. I do think developers are working these problems out but Mechanics take longer to create than story so they need to start working on the mechanics earlier.

Yeah, seems like it. And that's okay. Though it's not so much the urban setting itself as the lack of areas to explore within it.

Like I said, parts of Kalos looked beautiful but despite that lacked personality, both aesthetically and in terms of the intricacies of the world. One way I would describe it is that some of the routes felt like you were passing through people's gardens; beautiful to look at but removed from the nature of the world and limited to what you're seeing, not what else you could discover. I'd rather have a forest or field to traverse than someone's backyard. (I'll have to think about how great that analogy really was, lol. You can let me know).

Great analogy. They made it that way as Hoenn was based on nature as Masuda used to spend his childhood there making secret bases whilst as Kalos was based on beauty that is why it has a sterlised feeling and most of the towns look really spruced up.

I still feel like a lushous field is more beatuiful than a claustrophobic route. Kalos was too straight forward in design, the towns were okay, but they didn't feel big enough in most places, and didn't really have any interesting characters. Not to mention when I think of beauty I think of vibrant colors. ORAS was vibrant and pretty, while Kalos was... kind of washed out now that I look back at it. XD

I don't hate Kalos, and I think they did some things right with it, but the region itself feels very rushed, as does the Elite 4. I mean Diantha's character... is just kind of there, they introduce you to her early... but she doesn't even feel that important to be honest. She doesn't have gravity to her presence like N, Cynthia, Steven, Lance, Blue and Red. Her team is also kind of lack luster. You have all of these people using different varieties of Pokemon, but for whatever reason the champion gets mainly Kalos only Pokemon? You'd think they would have given her heavy hitters like Tyranitar and other Pokemon of that caliber.

@MorphMarron I was saying that ORAS would need a patch if they introduce new forms for Zygarde via an event and forego anymore Gen 6 games. Of course, as you said, when Z or X2/Y2 release, they won't patch ORAS and X/Y.

I Don't know why people think X2Y2 is coming out when there are many reasons for Z being the 3rd game. Firstly, the dimensions for the 3DS are X, Y, and Z so why wont they make games called X Y and Z . The mascot of X is Xerneas and is shaped like an X (Kind of) and the mascot of Y is Yveltal and is shaped like a Y (Can you see a pattern emerging) Zygarde which is weirdly shaped like a Z and begins with Z like Xerneas and Yveltal.
Also Serena new Character design could be pointing to what the Character could look like in X2Y2 and Z.Do you want a change in the Characters in Z or Maybe a new champion.

Black and White had the same thing with Kyurem (could have easily been Grey) but they decided to try something new with doing Black 2 and White 2. I agree it will be Z but there is a chance for X2/Y2

That could be it too. There really is no limit. There could be a new game as well. I think with Pokemon Bank they need to make the 3rd installment for Wii U. I think it could be awesome, but that is just my opinion.

If anything pokebank would be the reason to not make a wii u installment. It's a 3DS download software that would require one heck of a patch to be compatible with another entirely different console.

If anything makes it to the wii u it'd be nothing different from battle revolution with the new pokemon implemented and perhaps newer models for the older stadium ones. Another different title like XD and colosseum could be a possibility.

Pokemon Ranger could and should be a thing for the wii u though IMO. The gamepad is perfect for ranger's mechanics.. it'd be nice to see something like that with proper models make an appearence on the home console.

Most of the Pokemon Bank data seems server based, so I don't think it would be difficult to get the bank to work on Wii U. The main reason why I think the 3rd installment should be on Wii U is hardware restrictions. Hardware restrictions are always important to design around for games (especially Pokemon) and once that has happened making the 3rd version for console (also in HD) will eliminate a lot of the hardware restrictions and allow them to bring new gameplay to the game. They obviously shouldn't change the game to much but it could help in expanding ideas they wanted to push but couldn't. But this is just a personal opinion.

Whatever Pokemon game comes next, I just hope they add clothing options back in. That should NOT be a Gen-exclusive feature.

Probably insane, but I'm hoping for a new region and actual new Pokemon. Yes, in a third game.

After all, Nintendo have already made a lot of progress in this direction. Pokemon Platinum redid much of the story, Pokemon Black and White 2 redid all the story, changed the region and added a ton of new gym leaders, features and Pokemon forms.

So why not a Pokemon Z type game that takes place on another Kalos style region and introduces the rest of this generation's Pokedex? Maybe it could take place on some distant Pokemon French territory place. Or in Kalos in the distant past or future.

Yikes. The hair is cute but the rest of that needs to be customized away immediately.

I too am gunning for a Z version instead of X2Y2 not only because it makes more sense but so I only have to worry about buying one version! I am also hoping they keep the character customization, it'd be a step back for the series to not make it a standard from now on imo. Kalos is beautiful, I hope they make it even bigger and better, can't wait to revisit it.

The reason why people aren't hoping for a Z is because masuda already hinted that Z is a no go..

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-director-explains-wh...

"Our interview also touched on the upcoming Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire remakes for 3DS. Asked why Game Freak went down that route instead of creating, say, a "Pokemon Z" to follow 2013's X/Y, Masuda said the developer is always looking to surprise players.

"For example, if after Black and White we came out with a grey, people would have been expecting that," he said. "Same thing with X/Y and having a Z straight afterwards. So we're always just trying to surprise people."
