Hello everybody!

I suppose some of you frequent forum-lurkers may recognize my name by now (or maybe not) as i have been asking around for friend code's and other things related to Pokemon.

I want to start building a team that's viable for online battling and/or at least a very strong team. I really have no clue what to do, i've been reading up on IV's and how that work's with the IV-judge and think i understand that fairly well. But which pokemon to go with make's me confused. Do you know of any solid guide's or can you write a few tip's for me right here? If you know of any guide's please give a direct link to that particular guide.

Thanks in advance i really hope you can help me with this team-building issue because i dont even dare to try online battling with what i have.... D:

edit: I just read through the post and realised it's not informative enough, but what i want to get out of this post is for someone to maybe post an example of a full team of pokemon and at least a brief explanation as to why it is good to build in a certain way etc and any kind of team setup is appreciated really. I also wonder about super training, it is best to go for 2 stat's right? Or am i wrong?

you can't go for a single stat on super training as only 252 EV of the 510 total limit will go at most for each stat and some Pokémon are better with 3 trained stats(in rare cases even 4)
well I'd recommend for you to look at the type matchups to chose complimentary pokémon(that cover each other's weaknesses) I usually go for my favorites and I'll say a few(6) good ones that include:

  • Venomoth
  • Garchomp
  • Azumarill(only if the ability is huge power)
  • Galvantula
  • Talonflame(only with Gale Wings)
  • Alakazam
those are the guys that gave me the most trouble ever(not repeating types because you want to make a full team and not counting the Mega evolutions otherwise the top of my list would be Pinsir and Kangaskhan)

Alakazam needs Magic Guard and Hidden Power Fire (since Steel is used now more than ever) to bring chaos to your foes.

Edit: Venomoth? Huh. Galvantula... maybe. But Smeragle is better.

hm.... I still have the impression of the battles with Stopmapod.....
though now I know it's because all my pokémon that could defeat it were knocked out before it was sent out...

So if i try to balance my team meaning having different types (fire, water, u know the drill) and looking up each pokemon for a suitable Nature + how to train it can i basically just pick the Pokémon i like the most? It feel's kind of limiting when i think about it if i can't pick the ones i like best (aesthetically, im not very familiar with strategy/moves yet)

I would also be a lot more motivated to find and train the "perfect pokemon" if i was interested in the Pokemon itself. For example, i would love to be able to use Eevee/jolteon/vaporeon <- jesus i love the way they look.....

Thanks for the info! Keep it coming, i NEED it

Oh, and what's the best way to obtain money after beating the entire game? I want to buy the Charizard Y stone and also i need money for daily activities (pokeballs, status cures etc)

^depends on their base stats and moves they can learn but more than half of the fully evolved pokémon are useable
it also reminds me some unevolved pokémon can be used too but most of those need to be equiped with eviolite to be good

I actually I haven't had any Wi-Fi battles at all(though I've been watching them for a while), so I don't know if my advice really is useful, but I do think there are some things you should be doing.

If you aren't doing Wi-Fi battles, WATCH Wi-Fi battles and observe what Pokémon are common and what their roles are so you can get better at predicting what your opponent will do. Go on Smogon pages and research common builds through there. If you think a build could be useful or fun for you and it fits in your team go ahead and use it. Also, make sure you have Pokémon that can fill a few roles in your team so that you can switch to them when you need to, although make sure they have some synergy(like they don't all have the same weaknesses, able to be swept by one type of Pokémon, for instance).
Your team should be able to take out the most common threats in some way. You'll probably end up using those Pokémon yourself. You can't counter every threat with one team but there are common trends and you can figure out how to build a team around that. I think at the start you really just have to learn about the metagame and then when you get better you can start to get more creative and still have good teams. So I suggest you do some research first, learn about Pokémon so when you run into them you can predict them. When you see a Pokémon you don't know about go and research it later.
Also, you're going to lose a lot, even once you get better.

I think if you want to use "favourite" Pokémon Doubles might be your thing. It seems to me like you can pull off some strategies there you wouldn't be able to, otherwise. That's why I want to get into doubles more than singles myself, honestly.

Sorry I didn't give you more specific advice about these, but I'm still new to this and I've never actually battled online! Anyone got any more specific tips about what common threats and stuff ARE? I guess I just have to actually go online to figure it out, but it'd still be helpful...

Is my mindset for this okay so far guys?

you forgot to say that smogon is only good for moveset, nature and EV hints as their rules aren't applied unless you want to follow them(this includes the ridiculous tier system) and if you want to have fun their rules aren't helpful

^ True, although I still think it can be useful. Smogon is quite popular, so obviously a lot of people will go there to get info on their Pokémon. Like I said, I've never actually battled so I don't know wether it's really that common for people to just copypaste Smogon builds.

Smogon's rules are there to prevent abuse, not generally use. If you think facing a shell smashed, speed boosted mega mawile is fun, go ahead. I'll enjoy my fair, strategy oriented battles.
Now, for the op.
You can, to answer your questions, use any Eevee-lution, yes, they are all fairly strong to use in battle.
You can techicnally use anything you want, but while some look cool they are useless. You really want only strong ones, or useful ones on your team, otherwise its a wasted slot.
For team synergy, you need to develop your team so that it can handle whatever is thrown at it. The best place to start is by just making a team, and battling honestly. You'll see where your weaknesses are, and can replace things in order to better survive.
Another thing, IV training may be complicated right now, but there are plenty of guides out there; I suggest the Gamefaqs one myself. For EVs, you get 510 total, 252 max in each stat, best to max 2 stats out wait the extra in another stat.
To make money, I always go to the Restaurant Le Wow (3 stars). If you pay 100,000 poke, and have an amulet coin equipped, the prizemoney opower, you can pretty much double your investment. It's a great way to level up and earn money.
Before you buy Charizidite Y, WAIT. DON'T DO IT!! Look up a "Lumiose Style Guide", again on Gamefaqs, it can lower the price down to 10,000 poke! That saves a ton of cash.

Oh, and as you start out, try out a website called Pokemon Showdown. It's basically a free online pokemon battling website, in real time. So you can test anything there really easily. I reccomend the Smogon server, and OU battles.
Good luck~
