Topic: Pokemon X/Y Digital Download?

Well after much thought and deliberation and one disaster - I have finally decided that I am going to get POKEMON X via DIGITAL DOWNLOAD.

At first I thought it was a fantastic idea to have all my Pokémon 'live' in my 3DS console (cart-free existence at last). But then disaster struck and my trusty old 3DS badly let me down when a Data Management error corrupted all the save game data - losing over 30 hours of game play in Fire Emblem Awakening (DD). Afterwards Ninty brought out a Data Backup Tool for the 3DS (so I guess it's happening to other people too). So what would the risk and consequences of my precious Pokémon save game data becoming corrupted if it happened to Pokémon X/Y DD? It seems like a too big a risk to take. But, in spite of it all and with the backup tool, I still like the idea of always having my 'mon in my console. So, I am now going to throw caution to the wind, buy a new 3DS XL (Pokémon Y Limited Edition) console. Let's see how it goes. Wish me luck...

Are you going to get Pokémon X or Y via Digital Download, or are you going to keep your 'mon safely imprisoned in a cartridge?

Unsure of the chances, probably low, but never take unnecessary risk with digital data. The coinage "save, save, save," still applies, just now the technique varies based on the type of data. Digital data of any type is dynamic, and dynamic data is corruptible, so make backups, then make copies of the backups on another storage system, like your computer's hard drive, before you make any major changes to the card's data. This is one of the many reasons I still prefer cartridges for any game it's available for, the convenience of not needing to back it all up so often. Cartridge data is more stable because it's compartmentalized, the data is always in the same location and always the same blocks for each save. Mind you, you can still corrupt it, one method is by turning off the system while it's saving, thus it tells you while it's saving not to turn it off.

The backup tool does not work with retail titles. I have AC:NL downloaded and I cannot backup the saved game files for it.

I don't even understand why bother with the tool, when you copy the SD card to back it all up, the save games on there get backed up too anyway.

yah losing saved date is not really an issue, the big issue is losing the game itself if you lose your console or if its broken and you can't send to Nintendo....

Account System is brought up again. I have lost two DS's, a DSi, a DSiXL, and a 3DS in my lifetime. If I lose 200 hours of ACNL and the potential 500 hours of Pokemon Y, then I will be screaming off of the walls.

Yea that happened to my brother. He had about 600 hours on his Pearl then he lost his game. He was so made for about a month, he had even bought a second Pearl and put another 100 hours into that before the stopped getting mad about losing his original.

But to answer the question, I think I am going to go digital. Like Animal Crossing I am going to want this game with me at all times, and not take up my only physical card slot.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

If I randomly win one of the codes from the Pokemon sweepstakes then I'm going digital.

In the rare case I don't win a code, then I'll get it in whatever form presents first to me.

Bloop.

There's now a deal going down with Game.co.uk (UK) that if you pre-order the Digital Download of Pokémon X/Y you get a free digital download to Pokedex 3D Pro. Sweet! The best just gets better!

If you downloaded the games, you can back them up on your SD card. Accounts won't affect save data.
