I have played Pokemon since R/B/Y. I have always been pretty active online with Pokemon related content. I have to say that, with US/UM coming out soon I still hardly see people talking about it. Almost nothing compared to the last several sets of games. The S/M hype was overwhelming, even ORAS had tons of people talking about it despite being remakes.
What do you think? Has US/UM failed to generate hype in your internet and friend circles too?
To clarify, I am talking about the hype and the excitement with regards to the games, not the games themselves. Which is why I think this warrants it's own post, rather than the main US/UM thread.

It makes sense that there's less hype around it because it doesn't look like it will be very different to S/M. ORAS was very hyped because it was a remake of a game that was over a decade old that a lot of people had nostalgia for, and the remake added tons of new features. USUM obviously has some new features but evidently not enough to excite people.
I am hyped for these games but they are the least hyped up by Nintendo. These are the last of the series on the 3DS and Game Freak is hoping that just because it's a Pokemon game people will buy it. I admit I'm guilty of that because I love the series even if it's just a third version. I love the Alola region. Has to be one of my favorite region next to Johto.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
I think they're in a similar situation to B2/W2 (although those seemed to get a little more hype). Both arrived late on their respective systems - systems which had already had multiple Pokemon games across 2 generations. US/UM may suffer overshadowing by the Switch - this may have been less of an issue for B2/W2 with the 3DS as (i) it was backwards compatible and (ii) there were no big games comparable to Mario Odyssey at the time.
Personally, it'll be the first pokemon game from the main series that I don't buy a version of. Just don't find them interesting enough to warrant buying one, especially since my Shiba Inu ate my charger recently.
lucky you. I have to buy four copies of these games, for my kids and I. They love Pokemon as much as I do. but they are the only games I'm buying this month, even though we own a Switch (recently got), PS4 and 3DSes.

I personally have it preordered.... The amazon preorder price thingy and that special discount I got for preordering during e3 makes it easier to waste money on such things.
Of course, the fact I only buy for one person helps too
The game hasn't been marketed very well. They started off very hush-hush about what the game actually was and what was in store and people were confused about to what degree it was different from SM and even after they've revealed more information they still haven't done a good job of communicating that. That, plus people are getting disillusioned with the third version business model and were hoping for more value out of an expanded version. Especially after BW2 raised the bar for what these games can provide.
Yep, no hype at all. No new alolan forms, just two new ultra beasts.
I was hoping for alolan forms for pokemon like
pure ground noctowl or grass/water victreebell etc.
Its too bad cause these are the last games for the 3ds.
Many people wont be getting the switch. It is simply a different price point.
And many people were also disappointed by festival plaza, myself included, it is inferior to the PSS of generation 6, many of these people wont buy USUM because of the poor functionality of festival plaza compared to the PSS of gen 6.
I will still Buy Ultra Sun, but festival plaza is still a big pain.
@BlackTalon People said many people wouldn't be getting the 3DS when it launched too. You don't really think the Switch will remain at it's current price point do you? Odds are within a year and a half we will see either a price cut and a new version released, or "Switch Lite" cheaper - more child friendly version. I expect within 2.5 - 3 years the 3DS will be discontinued and we will have a "family" of Switch systems much like the 3DS is now.
Either way, major new Pokemon titles basically print money and sell consoles. So many people were not interested in 3DS until Pokemon XY.
Also I agree, the plaza was actually a downgrade from the PSS - which itself wasn't good.
Well, they're pretty much schedule-filler titles for the last days of the 3DS (which already has more than enough Pokémon games for most people). I'm not quite sure how new/different/innovative direct Pokémon sequels can be given that you don't even get much of that with the true next-gen Pokémon sequels, so they seem entirely inessential/pointless to me. Also, Sun and Moon had a lot of Pokémon Go-augmented hype at the time, so it definitely can't compete with that.
This is certainly the least excited I have been for a 3DS Pokemon game, but I'm still going to buy it because I view USUM as just another save file for Sun and Moon. The extra content is a bonus.
@BlackTalon This isn't the last 3DS game. Next Year will see a few RPGs from Atlus, that Sushi game from E3, and Kirby Battle Royale in the Americas. The system is definitely on a decline, but is still being supported.
I will buy Ultra Moon, but not Day One purchase.
I have interest with Pokemon games now, but not really Hyped.
I have Pokemon X, Pokemon Sun & Pokemon Mystery Dungeon : Gates to Infinity but All of them still NOT finished yet due to Low Hype with kind of that games.
@Snaplocket: Precisely. I don't discount the great new changes that both Crystal and Yellow brought to the table (A female protagonist was big for kid me, and I still love the Pokemon follow mechanic from Yellow that wasn't properly brought back until HG/SS), just that I think the other third versions, sequels, etc. have done more.
I can easily understand why some are disgruntled with these games. Personally I'll be patiently waiting to pick up Ultra Sun, but this has less to do with hype level and more due to budgeting and backlog control. The good news is, I'm making headway on both fronts!
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
