Is it worth buying ultra sun/moon for my old 3DSXL framerate wise? I’m kinda fired up for Pokemons after playing Crystal recently but don’t want spend money on a game that struggles on my dated hardware and certainly don’t want to buy new one just for this game.

Every 3DS model struggles to run SM and USUM to some degree, especially when there are more than 2 Pokemon on the field, but the older models more so than the New 3DS models. I'd skip it.

It's not unplayable on any model. The frame rate is just a bit unstable, but never to the point where you will be watching a slideshow or anything like that...

I play it interchangeably on the 2DS and 2DS XL and rarely notice the difference.

Thanks for answers! I decided to give it a go. Going to a game shop now. It will be steel case Ultra Moon version.
Now I regret selling my Pokemon Y version. Hopefully framerates are not worse then Y with 3D on 🤞

Yea don't pay no mind to some people. It's really not bad, I agree it's not 100% but really I can only think of like 3 or 4 battles where that happens.

Already picked Ultra Moon.. initial load time was kinda long but so far I’m pleased with performance. I was expecting low framerates on cutscenes but thankfully that’s not a case. But I’m early in the game and now need to choose my starter pokemon. Googling about them for an hour lol and still can’t decide
Grass type one is the cutest imo but internet says it’s not the best choice. And I don’t like cats. Water one is cute but later iterations are ugly..
I guess I’ll take grass one

I agree with this statement. I fully played Sun on my original 3DS. There were occasional framerate drops (as many have said, mainly during battles with more than two Pokemon), but the game never crawls or anything.

You've probably noticed by now that booting and then exiting the game takes a couple of moments on older systems; this is because it's freeing up some of the RAM for the game.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Yes, these games need some extra prep time on the original models.

It disables the use of some of the extra multitasking features on the 3DS, to use the extra ram for the game itself.

Anyone have a Grassy Pelt Skiddo/Gogoat and/or Adaptability Dragalge/Skrelp that they'd be willing to trade with me for? I'm trying to build a Grassy Terrain team and these are the last two fellas I want.

GTS is disgusting

Playing through Y again recently for the Hidden Abilities, reminded me of a few things. How tedious batting the same and uninteresting reused trainer is, how nice the designs in XY were and how cool Friend Safaris were. Honestly, why did they get rid of those? they were such a cool way of pushing interactions with people and a reliable way to Hidden Abilities for certain pokemon.

I miss the voice chat we had in omega ruby and sapphire. It was seldom used but when it was used it was great.

Honestly, I hope in the next generation they fix the mess that is GTS. So many troll offers and the fact you can't see the specifics of the pokemon you're trading for is awful.

Something else I find weird is how hidden abilities are handled. The means to get them alternates between generation but are limited each time. There has to be a better way to attain them so all pokemon can reasonably get them in game.

Like these are things that should've been fixed since like gen 5 or 6 but are still poorly handled.
