@Meowpheel So I found a shiny NidoranF in my HG a few years back.
Hatched a competitive Shiny Gastly in S/M (I didnt want shiny, just good) and I deliberately SOS chained a shiny Iglooshrew. It was Hidden Ability too!
But in terms of static Pokemon you interact with? Pheromosa was my first and took 3 hours. In random encounters it hasnt happened in about 7 years.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
To me, hatching, chaining and just staying in the same place for hours looking for random encounters counts as "provoking" it. Even if you weren't exactly trying for a shiny.
For stationary Pokemon, I've softresetted for two in total. Cresselia in alpha sapphire and Volcarona in white 2. Both took several days and were overall very boring experiences.
Though if you want to keep going at it, I'd recommend getting a team of synchronizers so you can manipulate their nature to at least get something usable.
My latest shiny was in Omega Ruby, an electrike I found while wasting time trying to find a plusle... Which turns out is only present in horde battles.
I mean if I wanted to use UB's competitively I can always do that separately. Shininess while competitive is just dumb luck for me, plus there is the issue of IVs...
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
I got a shiny Machop at the Jagged Pass in Alpha Sapphire, it turned to have a very good nature and stats but I'm not exactly interested in competitive Pokemon. I play for the story which is why I lost interest during gen 4.
I found a shiny Slowpoke in Moon. I was searching the beach northeast of Melemele island for new Pokémon and entered a battle while talking to my sister. I didn't notice it was a shiny until I'd already used Bite (or Crunch, I don't remember). Fortunately, it wasn't enough to defeat it. Decided to evolve it into Slowbro since it has Mega Evolution, otherwise I would've probably chosen Slowking which I've never used before.
I'm on my way to 4th trial now. I had to try Kiawe's trial thrice before conquering it. It was certainly tougher than in Moon. My current team was perhaps not the best for that battle. I'd just evolved some Pokémon so I had low level Murkrow and Igglybuff which both died in one hit. I also had Zorua and Rockruff, both weak to Brick Break. I ended up giving my Brionne the water Z-crystal for third battle and wasted that move thanks to Marowak's Protect.
It's its, not it's.

Might have to put Murkrow back to box after a while and take it back later. I wasn't aware that Dusk Stone isn't available until Poni Island. I'm pretty sure you could get one earlier in Moon. I think I evolved my Misdreavus while I was on Ula'ula Island.
I have not used Pokémon that evolve by means such as evolution stones and trading much since I mainly care about evolving my Pokémon. I've usually just thrown a stone at Pokémon like that and put in back to box immediately but now that I've evolved almost every Pokémon that evolve by leveling up or happiness, I'm going back to Pokémon that evolve via other means. Same goes for Pokémon that don't evolve at all. I'm trying to keep my rotation going on regardless so I'll have a good amount of time dedicated to each Pokémon before the game ends and I move onto other games.
It's its, not it's.

The only offensive Ground moves Dusk Form learns are all via move tutor - Drill Run, Stomping Tantrum and Earth Power.
Eh, not bad consolation prizes, I guess.
I haven't obtained any shiny Pokemon in recent memory barring distributions. The last time I lucked out was in Old Chateau in Platinum. I kind of regret evolving that Gastly....
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
@Tyranexx Not bad consolation prices. Itll let you hit Electric types I suppose? Rock already resists Poison so...and honestly it wont help much against Steel given sky high defenses and Dusk Lycanroc being...less than capable of taking hits

My point is that my main team in Sun was lacking any Ground type moves whatsoever, so having the option is definitely welcome. Earth Power at base 90 really isn't that bad.

@YummyHappyPills: Right, I was just referring to Lycanroc's viability in general. I've apparently been spoiled previously with Rock types who, despite possibly not having Ground typing, could still use a plethora of Ground moves.
I'm mostly planning to team-build with Pokemon that can be obtained on the first two islands.
