It's Pokemon. It will sell well and build hype regardless of the timing.

Eh, not so sure about this one. It's a third version, which inherently sells less than most other games, and there's a resounding sense of disappointment in SM and uninteresting in a third version. Plus the 3DS is declining and we're transitioning to the Switch, which is already confirmed to be getting a main series Pokémon game. There's a lot going against this game to the point where if it doesn't do something different and attention grabbing, it could easily be the worst selling main game of all time.

@Bolt_Strike B2W2 launched on the DS when the 3DS was already out, and it's still the best selling "third version" apart from Yellow. Probably because they released two games, just like this time. That alone will boost sales. The games will definitely outsell Crystal, and for what is essentially a port of last year's game, 6 million is basically free money.

And whilst it is true they already announced a Switch game, we always knew that was going to happen at some point. I don't think that will hurt its sales.

I personally am more hyped for gold and silver XD seriously, september cant come soon enough. Id rather download pokemon silver than playing pokemon ultra moon - pokemon moon was alright, but it was the least favorite game in the series for me nest to red and blue

@Bolt_Strike Name a Pokemon game that didn't sell well...

@Tsurii Never played it, but it looks better than what I imagined it to be, I'll admit that. It looked like some shovelware game for toddlers when it came out. At least that's the impression I, and I presume many others, had when they released those games.

@Octane I dont have a switch XD I can see myself hanging to my NEW 3DS XL for the next year, and maybe only at that point ill consider getting it. right now Im deep into the 3DS library, with games like dragon quest VII remake that I still havent really started yet and games like monster hunter stories and pokemon silver that are yet to come.

yea, the 3DS is alive and kicking for me =]

Thing is that BW2 were the kind of games I was talking about, the kind of mind blowing experience that caught people's attention. And even then, it only beat other third versions by about 1 million and still a far cry from new generations and remakes, both of which routinely see double digit sales. So yeah, the dual versions don't really amount to much, the games were still in the same range of other third versions and probably only beat them for being something new. If USUM doesn't follow suit, it has no hope of reaching that level. I could easily see below 5 million for this game if it's really disappointing.

Resounding disappointment among who? I saw a few say they were somewhat disappointed, but last I checked, overall reception was positive and they sold (and are still selling) quite well.

At first, yeah. But once the honeymoon period ended, there's been a lot of complaints about not having enough content and being bored of the game. The game just fell off pretty quickly and people are getting tired of the whole "new generation games with minimal content + rehash of the new generation with some token extras" formula.

Name a Pokemon game that was a generic third version on a dying console. It's a lot more complicated than that.

@Octane Pokepark 2 was actually really darn good if you're not too hung up about the presentation. Shame it wasn't as big a thing as it could've been.

It was the closest thing to having Pokémon battles like the anime until Pokken, for starters. I actually want them to make another one like that and expand more on the stuff you can do in battles and in the field XD

Pokepark's problem was branding/marketing, they were pushing it as a party game, but the game could've done much better if they emphasized the open world exploration and real time battling, there'd have been a lot of hype if people understood it was closer to an open world action-adventure. We could really use a spiritual successor to this series. 2 especially has a lot of potential to be the kind of Pokemon experience a lot of people want on the Switch.

I was sort of surprised that CoroCoro didn't reveal anything USUM related last month, but I suppose the Pokemon Company was more focused on the latest movie. I'm expecting some new info to come out in next month's issue, though. November isn't too far off.

News finally? Pokenchi doesn't usually show new news but I can't see why Ohmori would show up there for some unknown reason.

My friend posted this on discord last night, not sure where the source is from (and I unsubbed from a lot of poketubers for good reasons.. otherwise I'd know about this)

but discussion worthy? Seems timed too well with the tweet, before I was just holding back on the leak since leaks are rarely ever worth talking about outside corocoro or serebii post.

Doesn't sound that out of the water really. Then again we're at that point in the franchise where it could become yu-gi-oh for whatever reason and it'd fit.

Fake. Alola Hoothoot couldn't take advantage of Psychic Terrain because terrain moves only affect grounded Pokemon, so that entire concept doesn't work.

I would like a Psychic/Flying variant of Hoothoot/Noctowl, but they'd have to do something different with it.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that at least Noctowl wasn't Psychic/Flying from the get-go. I feel that it would have stood out more from the myriad of other Normal/Flying types in the game when it was introduced.

@Araquanid @Bolt_Strike @DarthNocturnal It's a rumour from 4chan, and it's like the twentieth 4chan rumour since last week or so. I wouldn't put much stock in it. If you want to look forward to something, next week they're going to reveal some new merchandise, some of them were ''question mark'' Pokemon. And there's CoroCoro as well in a week and a half.

edit: Also, about that rumour, the creator said he would upload some proof, and all he had was a badly photoshopped version of Wooper. He wasn't even trying.

You missed the “it's ability is Psychic Vision“ part, then? It could be an exception to the rule.

Don't think so. It's more likely the leaker just overlooked this detail.

Why do people even want a Psychic type Noctowl? That has to be the most boring type change ever, like you all said, it's basically already a Psychic Pokemon

Ghost/Flying or Ice/Flying are more interesting IMO. I like Alolan Ninetales and Marowak because they completely changed types, so I would like to see more of that.

Even if it was real, I think Bolt_Strike had a point. The difference is that guts negates an effect, whereas Noctowl wouldn't even be affected by Psychic Terrain in the first place.

@DarthNocturnal Its not but the Terrain moves have had this precendent since their inception.

And I think we could all appreciate NOT having a Pokemon that isnt grounded, gets the buffs of Psychic Terrain such as no priority moves to hit it, and then has all moves hit for the duration while also being able to therefore hold the Psychic Seed and get a stat buff when the terrain activates as well as god forbid putting it in a double battle alongside Tapu Lele.

@DarthNocturnal The problem isn't Psychic Terrain, it's their Flying type. Then it should negate their secondary typing, but that would also make them vulnerable against Ground type moves.

I don't think we ever had an example of a Pokemon not being affected by something initially, but their ability made it so they were affected by it.
