@Meowpheel You think that could be the reason? I mean, I guess that even with shiny Pokémon being easier to get than ever they're not at 50/50 odds yet, but the egg can hatch into a very small number of species. If they're worried about breeding, the whole process of transferring the shiny baby, evolving it so it can breed and getting a shiny from another species seems to be much more cumbersome than just looking for them the regular way.

I guess people could ignore GS in favor of Crystal, you're right. It's a bid odd to me, it's all. I'd assume most people would choose the version they played first, and most probably didn't play Crystal.

@MarcelRguez: I can usually put up with the railroading (They've more or less been doing it since Gen 3), but I still like having options. Nothing can replace the thrill of when young me realized that I didn't HAVE to go to Olivine/Cianwood before heading off to Mahogany Town. That news is quite unfortunate, but I'll still be playing through Sun.

@Tsurii: Don't worry, the story is one of the primary reasons why I like playing Pokémon games. I didn't mean that response to be negative necessarily, just that I wish you could do a few things out of order on occasion. It's not bad on the first play through, but subsequent runs get a bit same-y depending on the game.

I missed out on the GameCube games (though I would love to play them if they ever make it to the VC), but I agree about BW2. While that's my least favorite Gen in terms of the Pokemon introduced, the story was quite strong in those entries. I may also be a bit biased as well since I liked the movie studio mechanics. XD

I may get Silver, even though my Silver copy and my Soul Silver copy works just fine XD
I'm pissed off we didn't get Crystal though! I wanted to be able play it since you could play as a girl, and because the Eusine storyline is awesome,

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I liked how starting a new game without saving allowed you to play with the other characters color palette.

So, if you have a boy (red) file and start a girl (blue) file and then quit without saving, then your character will be blue next time you play.

Although the effect was not permanent.

It doesn't interest me much because I've moved on to the Switch. Though I can understand why they've released them on the 3DS now. It's really the last couple of games they can put on the 3DS VC that anyone would care much about. The next games on the list, other than Crystal, would be Ruby/Sapphire. And those could easily be part of the grand opening of the Switch VC.

As for the games themselves? They were my favourites in the series. Easily. And I think it's kinda interesting how people are talking about which Pokemon were super rare. Those were the last games I really explored almost entirely by myself without being able to look stuff up on the internet. I didn't watch the cartoons either so it wasn't until years later that I worked out some of the stuff.

I put hundreds of hours into those games. I didn't even know Dunsparce and Smeargle existed until gen4 having skipped gen3. I didn't think that Remoraid evolved into Octillery and spent a fair bit of time trying to fish for Octillery. I didn't catch a Pineco because I didn't really bother much with the headbutting trees mechanic. I also didn't think to try any of the evolutions that involved Pokemon holding items except for Upgrade.

I was kinda the same with gen1. I had Red because all my friends had Red. I then got Yellow because it was the special edition of the game. Never had or traded with anyone who had Blue because Blue was lame. And I didn't watch the cartoons. So I didn't know Magmar existed until I got a poster with all 150 Pokemon on it.

I think the reason for Crystal's delay is due to the Mobile Communication facility in the Pokémon Centre in Goldenrod City (this was removed entirely from non-Japanese versions of the game). This facility allowed for online multiplayer somehow (you can find information online about how it all works).

Maybe they're working on localising that feature for a global release? Who knows. Celebi is also catchable in Ilex Forest if you're in possession of a GS Ball (the GS Ball was not released outside of Japan, if memory serves). It would be nice if they modified the game just a little so that the GS Ball can be obtained in-game. I hoped for the same with Mew, but that hadn't eventuated either, and the Mew distribution for the VC release of the Gen I games only took place in Japan.

I can't help but wonder, what's stopping them from releasing these on Switch as well? I would much rather play these classics on the Switch (the addition of user profiles via the Switch would also make it a far tastier value proposition).

Agreed here. I love Crystal's design, and while I love HG/SS to death, I didn't like how they redesigned the female playable character for that one. I liked the male redesign a lot better, so that's one of the two Pokemon games where I opted to play as the male avatar when I had the option to do otherwise (the other being Platinum).

Also yes! I love the Eusine storyline! It changed up the game somewhat, making the adventure feel more fresh.

I also wish that we had gotten the GS Ball at some point; they did have a Celebi event in the remakes that was really well done, but it would still be cool to catch Celebi in the classic games.

I guess the thing with Suicune and Eusine was that it became the first time the game's main legendary pokemon had any relevance to the story.

So it was a novelty.

I feel like Nintendo doesn't try hard enough with Pokémon. Sun and moon are really weird games and now we go backwards to 2006 like if I really wanna play gold or silver I can pick up a gameboy off eBay and a gold silver copy.

@Forest Yes... the logic thing to do is to spend more in a game boy and a game while also having to spend on batteries and having the risk of both the Game Boy and the game dying at any moment because of the age, instead of having the game with better resolution and no risk of losing your save file, not to mention cheaper and on a console that will last way longer and that doesn't need batteries.

Considering that the release of blue, red and yellow was quite succesful and that there are threads asking about the release of these games, I'm pretty sure there are lots of people interested on them and that they'll sell pretty well.

I don't have a 3DS myself, but I'll be encouraging my girlfriend to get it - you guys are in for a treat...got to be one of the greatest gaming sequels of all time! (should be Poké Bank compatibility too! #Winning! )

I really wanted Crystal. I don't want to go back to playing Pokemon games where I can't even choose to play as my own gender. Gold/Silver/Crystal are VC essentials due to the battery issues of the original cartridges, but for me personally I need Crystal.

in for what treat? Ultra or the switch version, because sun and moon are kinda dull. It's an island but it has too much concrete streets and towns. Hoenn was more lush with jungles.

Doubt it.

Anyway, what I meant is that the "treat" the user you quoted was talking about is Gold and Silver.

A bit off-topic, but does anyone know why Kingdra's menu sprite looks like a Charizard in Pokemon Gold? I've never owned a Kingdra before, so I was a bit worried my game was broken... It goes from a fish sprite to a Charizard sprite...(?)

Maybe because they are both "dragon" Pokémon?
