A few days ago, I was walking with my 3DS and got about 5800 steps, so I should have earned 58 play coins. Of course, I only got ten because that is the limit per day. Well, why is that limit there? People are changing the date on their 3DS to get more play coins so, the limit seems pretty useless. I just wish Nintendo would just remove it. Does anybody agree?
Nintendo is all about limiting, to the point of absurdity.
You've played a game for too long - go for a walk!
You've walked for too long - go... play a game?
Of course life goes on courtesy of @willobee; I still find their practices illogical.
I think they absolutely need to remove the limit. It was okay at launch but now many games use them and at a rate of at least two at a time. In light of the four new street plaza games, the 10 coin limit is especially bad.
I agree, but anything over 15-20 play coins would probably end up giving people too many play coins, then your coins would just stack up with nothing to spend them on.Just a thought.
If they expand the use of play coins more than it currently is, they will probably will up the limit, but it would be too easy/fast for people to unlock more stuff for how much play coins do. Or they could give out more a day by still retsining the 1000 steps = 10 play coins, but then giving out 20 at 5000 steps.
Other than those options, I think they're giving a reasonable amount of play coins for as little as there is to use them for.

It's because of people that break the play coin system by sitting there and shaking their systems. The 10 coins are easy to get via walking so the hope likely is that players will at least do the small amount of walking each day that gets them play coins. Running out of play coins anyways? Ignore the game for a few days while you enjoy the summer months, when you get back you'll have some coins and it's good to get out more.

Well, the system is still being broken when people change the date on their 3DS so, the limiting isn't fixing the problem.
I need more play coins. I live in an area where I don't get many StreetPass hits, so I have to spend them all to get any new puzzle pieces, and then Animal Crossing, AND that's not even counting the new StreetPass games and other games with PC functionality. So, I only get to use six play coins a day on puzzle swap, usually resulting in me getting NO new pieces. If StreetPassing in my area doesn't SERIOUSLY pick up when Pokémon come out I might just give up.
I would like Nintendo to rubber-band it depending on how many StreetPasses you get a month. Yeah, you could abuse that by turning wireless completely off, but at this point it honestly doesn't matter as no games are using them in a competitive manner. I don't think it matters if someone wants to cheat this unless it makes it unfair for others, and if anything, cheating play coins would make things better for everyone you StreetPass since you get to give them rarer puzzle pieces.

Of course, a problem like this CAN'T be fixed, people will always find a way to cheat the system if they're determined enough. Just like DRM, they do what they can to lessen the problem, and it's inconvenient for us but we just have to accept it. Streetpass games are not very playable without streetpasses, play coins are not meant to take the place of streetpasses so if you're in an area with few streetpasses, you're outta luck. But if you save your play coins for real games like AC, you usually can get more than enough every day. Also, people that cheat by changing the date do risk messing up other games they might play such as AC.

I usually get at least 10,000 steps per day, so maybe
1,000 steps = 10 play coins
5,000 steps = 20 play coins
10,000 steps= 25 play coins
Does that sound fair? You're still able to get more coins, but it would be WAY too easy if they just gave you 10 for every 1000 after that initial 10.
I don't get why people complain about the limit, I've never had problems with it, I just save up and budget it and eventually get everything I want. Though I have had a 3ds since a couple days after launch which has given me the opportunity to keep up with the puzzle swap puzzles as they come out and other such things so that might be it.
EDIT: Oh and I have friends who have 3DS's I've almost forgotten what it was like when I was playing Find Mii with just play coins. On the plus side, it's more strategic, on the negative side it takes FOREVER. Ok, now I can understand why people complain about the limit.
The limit hasn't really bothered me too much because I usually get street passes no matter where I go (I live in LA so there are usually a lot of people around, and a lot of them have 3DS's!)
I could see how it could be annoying if you lived in a more vacant town where you have to rely on play coins more to complete the Mii Plaza games instead of street passes. It seems like a reasonable limit to me, though. Maybe 15 would be better for some people, but if there was no limit then unlockables would be pretty much worthless since they would be so easy to get
