I hope very badly that the platinum prize is a Non-Specific Action Figure! It would be something different, not Mario, and the timing would be perfect!

They are doing things differently this year, so it is anyone's guess. The last few have been on July 1. Just for verification, here hare links to the last two years' announcements.
Supposedly the first year we had to wait 2 weeks. Maybe they just don't want us all overloading the site at once with all the changes taking place to the surveys, people saving surveys to enter July 1st, people wanting the new July downloadable games, and people ordering their elite prizes, so they're taking their time. Or maybe they want to wait to announce them on the 4th for some silly reason, but they really shouldn't say "stay tuned" unless the announcement is imminent.
I may be wrong, but I could have sworn that the first one was also on the first, but I can't find anything to verify that.
Edit: Just went and did some research and it appears that I was wrong about the 2009 prizes being announced on the first. It would appear that Iphys is right and they were announced on July 14 that year.
New theory: maybe after last year's awful platinum reward, they realized most of the things people suggested on the Internet were way better, so they're actively reading Internet forums trying to find a good idea to use this year instead of coming up with their own failtastic reward. Start brainstorming awesome ideas to help Nintendo out, people!

Something cool like a pretty big statue of Nintendo's big franchises together. Or Kirby Plush Doll? Maybe? No? Ok, just me.
I just want something useful for gaming. I don't need another random object that is just going to sit on a shelf in my guest room and never move. Some cool game like the first year or a controller would be great.
Last year someone suggested ocarinas, which I still think would be an awesome reward. Zelda t-shirts would be cool too. I really just want something I can use in some way, rather than something that merely sits on my shelf, collects dust, and gives me an asthma attack.
