Going by the title of this thread you should already know to expect spoilers, so look away young ones, lest you wish to know thy future.

...anyway.

I managed to 3-star all the missions (about five hours of playtime, if anyone's curious) up to Platinum. This unlocks Diamond, which contains some pretty crazy missions. (Though not many of them, sadly. bah!) I 2-starred them without much difficulty, but 3 is going to be pretty difficult.

So, my questions:

Do you unlock anything more by 3-starring them? Or is it just personal satisfaction?

And would you stand to gain anything from getting a perfect score on every mission? Not that I imagine I'd ever be able to, but is your only reward the red border around the stars?

Feel free to discuss / ask about any other unlockables in the game here as well.

Yesh, you do unlock a nice Easter Egg that will take you back to N64 Nostalgia Land if you get all 3 stars in Diamond. Won't spoil it though. n_n

Perfecting all scores only unlock a sense of personal satisfaction though....

Awesome JayArr, thanks! I've already started perfecting older missions for the heck of it, but I can't even imagine trying to perfect anything in gold or above.

I wonder if anybody has managed to perfect them all?

Correction - When you get perfect scores for all missions in all classes you unlock the ability to use the super vehicles on all levels. So for example, you can use the Super Rocket Belt on Bronze to try an achieve scores better than perfect.

I've almost collected everything in free flight and wanted to share a few things I found helpful.

General Free Flight Tips

  • On the vehicle select screen press "X" and it will show you exactly what you need for completion on each vehicle. It really helps pin point those last couple pesky balloons.
  • Comb the beach. At least with me, I was treating it like water and did not figure there would be a lot on the sand.....there is.... Also around the walls of the small islands were sneaky spots.
  • With the rocket belt when flying over the town section press down to change your view. Some of the trophies here are hidden in devious locations.
  • When going for hang-glider rings, fly during the evening. The sunset glare really shows the difference between gold and silver to help nail down the ones you haven't found.
  • Relax and have fun. You will find them. =)

Jayarr, you must be REALLY good at Pilotwings because some missons I cannot even get 3 stars (hang glider especially in Platinum).

I've got 3 stars up till Silver. It's gonna take me forever to 3 star some of these. O_o

Anyone have tips on 3 starring the mission where you pilot the hang glider and try to get to 1,500ft and land within 2 minutes? I can never get more than one star on it.

Finally 3-starred everything! Six hours of playtime, and those last ones were doozies. I also 100%'d the plane in Free Flight, but am having trouble finding the last few rings and gifts. I have to say, I've enjoyed this game quite a bit more than I expected to.

@wobee: That one took me ages, and I wish there was some trick I could explain to you, but there really wasn't. What you need to do is get the hang of when to pull up in a thermal drift in order to achieve maximum height. Soon after you enter the drift, that's the magic time, but if you miss it slightly, you should still be okay.

The drift you enter first (if you don't turn your glider) is rooted on the ground, but to its left and its right are drifts that are higher up, and will therefore get you more altitude.

I'd recommend hitting the first drift and experimenting with when to pull up on your glider. (You also have to be careful not to lose speed, or your height will get you nowhere!) While lifting, turn left and face that drift, and fly into it. If you miss it (or aren't flying high enough) restart the mission and try again.

If you can hit the higher drift, pull up again (and hold it) and you should be close to your target height. You don't need to hit the target height to get 3 stars, you just need to be close in your final score. On the way down, snag as many of the score tokens as possible (I think I missed one but still got 3 stars), and do your best to land on the 3:00 mark for 30 points. Those points are a huge help, so don't let too much time pass.

In short: I'm assuming your problem is getting the height from those drifts. There's really no way to do it properly without practicing, so just get used to restarting the mission until you can "feel" when to do it.

Not an unlockable but a sweet cameo. I believe it's only at NIGHT.

If you go by the houses (the ones lit up), you'll hear something familiar. It's near the wind turbines but I think it's ANY house with a light on because I heard it at a different spot. Pretty neat lol

If it involves Mario, that little easter egg was in the original Resort as well.

Oh? Well, then. I did not notice that at all. Though, I haven't played Wii Sports Resort's FreeFly mode all that much to realize and get in depth. Good to know.

I have. That mode sucked my soul for hours on end haha.

Also, the tips for the gliding stage helped a ton. Thanks!

I've managed to get three stars on every level in every difficulty, and collected all rings/mii statues/balloons/information rings/bubbles in free flight mode. I am currently working on getting perfect in all levels, and have completed training and bronze, and am 1/3 through silver, having gotten perfect on all the jet pack missions. It's so much easier to go back and better your scores on the easier levels, once you've gone through diamond.

This game is an absurd addiction with tremendous replay value. I've played this for well over 6 hours, and SSF4 maybe 10 minutes...
