@Vee_Flames Because platforming and slow pacing are a good fit, right?
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.
@Vinny Like there weren't any platforms in other Pikmin games. It's not like Olimar is going to jump in this game or something...
Oh, and slowpacing is a good fit; it was the only fit.
I'm surprised at all the skepticism this one's getting.
Yes, it's a spin-off, but Pikmin has already had a (generally well liked) main entry this gen, so it's not really comparable to the Fed Force scenario.
Of course, it could be bad, but it's too early to say either way at this point.

@faint If the Internet is Nintendo's fanbase, then overall we should. Right now we've mostly been getting the games that Nintendo (and a minority of course) want. Federation Force, Mario Maker 3DS, amiibo Festival, Star Fox Zero, etc.

As long as this isn't a stupid attempt at making the IP more desirable like chibi robo was, before they retire it if it fails, I'm totally in support of this spinoff. It looks slow paced, but I'll wait until we see more before I judge completely. But one cannot deny the similar feeling it gives off to zip lash
@LegendOfPokemon Mario maker is going to sell gang busters. You like Kirby right? Didn't we just get a new mainline Kirby game? It looks like a lot of folks are interested in sun and moon. Oh and dragon quest fans who use Nintendo products have been begging for dq7 and dq8 remakes since the ds.
@Operative what do you mean treatment? Metroid is treated far better than pikmin. I can't stand how people just want to crap on everything when they don't get exactly what they want. It's really frustrating.
@Operative Metroid isn't comparable either. Neither Other M nor Federation Force were attempts to make the series more mainstream for better sales like Zip Lash was.
Metroid only saw bad characterization choices (Other M) and a poorly timed spin-off (Fed Force).
Pikmin is Miyamoto's baby. It's not being mistreated.
Edit: Pikmin wasn't ignored during that period of time. Pikmin 3 just had a loooooooong development cycle (it was in active development for Wii then largely scrapped for it to be on Wii U)
@IceClimbers that's my hope. That it is miyamotos personal love child so he'll never let it fade into obscurity the same way. So in that sense I'm optimistic
@Operative the way I see it this is a spinoff just like metroid prime pinball and federation force. We will get main line entry's in these series. Everyone just needs to calm down. It really sucks knowing that anytime these developers try anything new everyone is just going to crap on them.
This is different to Metroid because the last main series Metroid game came out in 2007. And the last spin-off before Federation Force came out in 2010. Both of them on last-gen hardware.
Compare that to Pikmin where the last main series Pikmin game came out in 2013. On a platform that is to this day still the highest end Nintendo platform on the market. I'd go as far as to argue that Pikmin is only second to Zelda in terms of how well Nintendo has "respected" the IP in recent years.
