Never played a Paper Mario game before,you think this is worth a buy?

From what I hear, I think it would be a good place to start off and if you enjoy it, look into the original Paper Mario on VC.

Apart from the random sticker key nonsense, I suspect a lot of the changes made were to ease completely new players in.

Probably, although all the games bar maybe Super Paper Mario are really beginner friendly and easy to understand/get used to for a beginner.

I’m surprised in GamExplain the most. They seemed REALLY excited for this title and them they turn around and give it a 2/5 or maybe it's just me.

Still better than SPM.

And I love it as the stat gains are slightly like in FFII for famicom.

Gonna get it for christmas.

Maybe because it was a massive letdown compared to the other paper mario's. My friends have also canceled their pre orders. It's a real shame that Nintendo seemed to have messed this up.

I feel uncertain about this game. I was going to download it but I may buy the cart to trade in if its not worth keeping to replay even then.. Funny I never usually blink about mean scores of 80% but all this talk has got me jumpy. yeesh.

And Super Metroid was a fantastic game.

lol exactly what I'm thinking, I'm not letting any of this affect me. Downloading this as soon as it pops up on the eShop.
Seriously have no clue where people are getting 8/10 = failure.
I already assumed this wasn't going to top TTYD, and I was right. Still going to be a great game though.

As far as I can tell, the 2/5 given to it by a reviewer was because he expected a glorious TTYD sequel on the 3DS. He didn't get that, so he's giving it a poor score as some sort of revenge. I sure wasn't expecting a TTYD version, so my hopes weren't shattered when I found out it was different. It plays differently because it is a different game. If it truly was to receive a 2/5, then I would have expected other reviewers to give similar scores, but they aren't. They are giving it around 8/10, so I'd rather look at the majority average than a single unsatisfied reviewer.

It is unfortunate that I had to cancel my pre-order of Sticker Star. No, the reviews had nothing to do with it. It was based on my financial situation, and a mistake on my part with a previous transaction. Because of that, I don't have the extra funds to get this and a Wii U, so it becomes getting one or the other. I have a lot better chance at getting Sticker Star within the next month than I do getting a Wii U, so it is obvious of which item to cancel.

It is sad, as I even had the pre-order with Newegg when they had the 25% discount.

I didn't know that 8/10 was a bad score. My God, some gamers and reviewers are ridiculously critical these days, lol.

Almost, not quite as good as the original, but it appears MILES better than SPM and the thousand year door (Which made me fall asleep once).

And I think it is a little similar to FFII like this: You can't level up or gain EXP, but you can use items to get stronger and to attack, and you have to train and get used to the same strategy in order to win battles. That was what made me love FFII, so I will love this.

I'm pretty sure the people not wanting this (myself included) don't want this game because of the decisions the developers made in the game mentioned in the reviews, not the scores themselves. I'm not turned off by 8/10 games. The mechanics of it just don't look appealing to me at all.

If I wasn't in my current predicament, I wouldn't have cancelled my pre-order. Just saying.

Downloading this in two days. Can't wait as this is the type of Mario I really like. Not the stale old 2d platforming. I don't like the RPG element taken out but I'm sure it will still be lots of fun. Oh and I though TTYD wasn't all that great. Not sure why but I like the original better.

What I really want is another venture in the Mario and Luigi series.
