Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. A launch title for the 3DS, I believe, and it's still one of the best strategy games on the system.

Codename: S.T.E.A.M. as well. Such a shame people didn't take to it.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

I love Shadow wars - completed it a few times. It was the best of the first batch 3DS games and is still great now. If you like X-COM on pc etc. then GET IT!!!

I just got Codename: STEAM last week. Not played it yet though.

I really enjoy Turn Based Strategy games, harking back to Chaos, Rebelstar Raiders back in the ZX Spectrum days. The pc was perfect for me with the likes of HistoryLine 1914-1918 and BattleIsle etc. etc. Then, of course came Advance Wars, Fire Emblem and others on Nintendo machines - TBS games on the go - pocket perfection

Oh, man, another one I just remembered: Sakura Samurai. If you like Punch-Out!!, this is definitely worth looking into. Basically, it's Punch-Out!! gameplay wrapped up in a charming Japanese aesthetic and split into missions, complete with a world map, villages to visit and just a bit of crafting to do. Really enjoyed it, and a great example of how digital distribution (particularly on the 3DS) has been a breeding ground for new Nintendo IP.

@VelvetElvis, I loved Sakura Samurai, and it's a shame that unlike it's brethren (Pushmo & Dillon's Rolling Western, which were new eShop IP that released around the same time), it was the only one that never got a sequel.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Sakura Samurai was awesome. Probably my favorite of the download-only games Nintendo has released.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

Glad to see Sakura Samurai get some love. And as @Nego mentioned, just about all of the Guild games are worth a mention. Recently finished Weapon Shop de Omasse, and it was worth the ride for the script alone. One of the few straight-up video game comedies that actually works.

I need to mention Jett Rocket II: Wrath of Taikai. It's not one of the 3DS' best, but it's good and I know it's overlooked

I haven't got too far in the game and it's not exactly a grand game but Citizens of Earth. Ever wanna play as the vice president recruiting everyday people like a Conspiracy Theorist, School Mascot, your mom fighting off kooky enemies like a actual honey bear, viruses, angry cars and... okay you see where this is going. The game is a bit unstable at times and but take a look for this RPG.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

@Captain_Toad: I remember watching the first maybe 30 minutes of Citizens of Earth when it first came out. While it looked alright, the humour is not really my cup of tea.

Nintendo Pocket Football is another good one.

Some random, unpopular or overlooked 3DS retail and download games I've greatly enjoyed include:

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity
Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley
Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns (digital)
Classic Games Overload Card & Puzzle Edition
Puzzler World 2013
The DENPA Men, specially 3
Pokemon Rumble World and Shuffle
The Magic Hammer, a bit
Smile Basic
Picross, any

Among others I can't remember. Of course I have more games I enjoy, but I'd like to think they are actually not overlooked or unpopular... Like Main Pokemon games, anything Zelda, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy Theathrythm or Mario Golf. And well, I didn't count VC or DSiWare.

^I wouldn't count the f2p Poke-games myself, they're fairly popular and the threads on here are more active than say NSMB2 oR MK7.

Well, many people do play them... But it feels like just as many people run away from them like a plague because they're f2p.... So they may be overlooked by some.

In the case of the Shuffle thread, is actually like 5 people posting most of the time. As for those other games, they're older and no longer updated (and replaced by newer entries in their series), there's nothing to talk about for most people here.

@Meowpheel: I wish Smile BASIC came out in Europe. Would you say it's a good way to get re-introduced to programming? I did take some programming classes in high school (Visual Basic, Flash) but that was about 9-10 years ago.

@Nego: in the right hands, yes I'd say it'll re-spark the person's interest in programming.

If it'll teach you useful information outside of the logic of programming, that's more up for debate.

As a side note, I was actually more of a fan of the original Petit Computer... Too bad it can't be bought now.
