Topic: One Way to Expand SpotPass

SpotPass is interesting.

SpotPass allows the 3DS to download data to the 3DS while doing something else. Basic stuff which you already know, but what if they really took advantage of SpotPass and send us notifications all the time about upcoming 3DS news? Basically, have Nintendo send us weekly SpotPass messages, where it tells the user what games are available for that week's update and released or soon-to-upcoming retail games hitting the 3DS. Heck, it could allow more coverage of obscure titles like Heroes of Ruin and Code of Princess, not just the heavy-duty Nintendo games like New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Pokemon Black and White 2. At least tell the unsuspecting (those that don't go to Nintendo Life everyday) that niche games like those are coming to 3DS and really deserve your attention.

Nintendo gave us a taste of this with SpotPass messages telling us information to other people, but it would be cool to just expand it into a weekly thing, similar to Nintendo Life's Nintendo Download articles. It won't be for those who follow Nintendo Life everyday, but for those who don't keep tabs on gaming, it would be an excellent function and it can expose people to games they wouldn't know of anyways.

SpotPass has potential, but all the potential in the world can't make SpotPass what it was designed for unless Nintendo starts using it for a purpose aside from additional content for games. SpotPass for ingame content is fine, but seeing a new way to meaningfully use SpotPass outside of ingame content would be exciting, and can ultimately help Nintendo in the long run by introducing people to games they would take an interest in.

At least, that's what I hope so.

When you meet a Mii via spotpass in the Mii Plaza, it shows what game they've been playing recently.

Yep. But that doesn't tell you ANYTHING about the game. The everyday man would be like: what's Code of Princess? Heroes of Ruin? Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars? And that would make the difference: my expansion would be to have SpotPass send messages to those people to give them a rundown of what the game is about.

Plus, with that glowing blue dot of joy, how can you resist?

Oh, yes. I did mean streetpass, of course.

In StreetPass Plaza, you can select a Mii, go to "Most Recent Software" and then it will prompt to take you to the eShop where you can read a description about the game, watch a video or see how other people have rated it.

Spotpass could be used in many ways, it could be used very well for Facebook and Twitter

You select the option "Most Recent Software" option on the Streetpassed mii and it will connect you to the eShop which will then tell you everything you need to know about the game, videos, reviews and if available demos.

Just been checking my massive list of Spotpasses... I have lots because of games like Samurai Chronicles and Dead or Alive... you get craploads with them.
Anyhoo, ive had them telling me about lots of eShop games, Nintendo Direct shows, available demos and even new episodes of saun the sheep etc.
A grand total of 100 advert messages from Nintendo / other developers so I think they are using spotpass a lot. Most of the time they are eShop messages which is cool because it links you to the game etc, but some are for retail games like Kid Icarus, Mario Kart and Mario Tennis etc.
Soooooo, i dont think the spotpass needs updating to get these adverts, as we already do.

Edit - Whilst looking back at them I had noticed that some of the earlier ones are missing as my additional content ones from Sam Warriors starts half way through even though I was getting them from day one (launch of the game) so Im guessing that it deletes them after you recieve so many.

Kind of have this in eShop, but I wish they would list more than downloads there. They already have the 3DS games with their own pages on it, so why not? Although I would like an app just for Nintendo Direct: you could stream it to your system, and it could have an archive of news- and you could select what kind of news like "Upcoming Games", "Console Games", etc., to get Notifications about. The rest of the news would get added to the app silently. If they already had something like that they could have preinstalled it onto the 3DS XL. I've wanted it for a long time because I can't actually get up to watch the conferences with crazy time zones but I'm too lazy to look up all the information myself.

So yeah.

I think Nintendo said a long time ago (Back in 2010) that we would recieve news or some sort when we wake up. I was looking forward to that.

Am I the only one they pester with these little blue flashing lights. Reading this post is making me wonder because I have had plenty of eShop adverts sent to me advertising eShop and retail games.

You're not alone. I've had 9 messages (as of now) telling me to get Nintendo Video.

There's some of them that didn't worth the time and "space" (at least not 9 time) there must be a way for Nintendo to know if we received the spotpass (or if we have the app) and don't make them appear... But so far I'm happy with most of them (even if sometime they came late)...

Sorry if my english isn't good... At least I try :-)

A lot of times I get useless Spotpass notifications: I would prefer if they sent out a consolidated notification once a week telling me everything, rather than notifying me of one piece of information I probably don't care about.
