so long as they're not selling those 'pre-owned' consoles at full price, who cares?

They probably are, what's to stop them from doing so?

Personally, i despise GAME, their in-store pricing is disgraceful and i’ve had instances in the past where i’ve bought (supposedly) new games from them, only to find they had existing save files on them.

They take the opportunity to screw people over, whenever.

sounds like a British Gamestop, then — i've heard of the 'save files on supposedly new games' thing popping up every so often from GS before, and they've got some shady practices of their own depending on the store and manager(s) involved (loaning out games to employees and selling them as new afterward, refusing to sell games in their original shrink-wrap, giving crap for trade-in value and reselling the same games at nearly-new prices, etc. and so forth). still, as James says, 'probably doing' isn't the same as 'actually doing', y'know? we can assume the worst, but there's no knowing for sure without proof.

I do not see a problem with this so long as the consumer is able to fairly purchase an item, be it preowned or new, at a reasonable price.

I hate GAME for other reasons.

Dont rant on Game
you guys there in UK and NA should be happy , you get the 3DS anyhow for much lower prices.
jeeeshh its like you get a 3Ds plus 3 free games lol ....
not so in other countries ...
so Game sounds still as a good shop as any gaming shop for me , and if you dont want to get involved in such offers just dont buy preowned stuff.

cheers

@Stereoman: ... because getting something cheaper than someone else in another country magically makes all the other, more pertinently offensive business practices okay. i suppose i also shouldn't bother mentioning it when a local restaurant chain consistently gets my orders wrong (because that food, filled with things i'm allergic to or not, would easily cost two or three times as much somewhere in the world) or when certain auto repair chains charge two or three times as much as the local guys and constantly try to get you to have them fix crap that doesn't need fixing because they know they can get away with it (because there are people in other countries who can't even afford cars, let alone having them repaired and/or serviced regularly). Duly noted!

Why are you always twisting my answers in other directions ? Trying to read something which isnt there ?
all what i stated was its ranting on a high position and has nothing to do with consumer or retail breaking practise , as it was formerly stated that it wasnt mandatory and wouldnt be done in large numbers.

if you'd said what you just said in reply #26 instead, i wouldn't have bothered, as that was firmly focused on the original post in question as opposed to looking as if it were directed at some of the other things that've been said so far in this thread.

The only one losing is Nintendo. Instead of selling two new 3DS systems, Game buys one and then makes pure profit selling that one pre-owned.

But that's the beauty of the pre-owned market I guess.

Nintendo is very unlikely to lose out here... it's not like someone will go to Tesco, find that they have no 3DS's in stock, and decided to just never purchase one.
It is a sizable hit to both Tesco and the consumer. Tesco was selling the 3DS at a heavy discount (possibly selling it at a loss) to draw consumers to buy other items as well. A consumer that finds that Tesco is out of stock would probably simply leave - to find a 3DS elsewhere - rather than stick around to purchase other items. And, of course, the customer loses out since they don't get the nice discount.

Honestly, considering how much money Tesco makes in a year, I doubt this has even made the smallest of dents in their fortunes.

Well, YO! Isn't this a bit defamatory for themselves? I mean, from my perspective, this is rather bad for business, and their own image. Plus, they're losing a whole lotta money, buying from retail instead of wholesale suppliers, regardless of 175 pounds.

And I dunno anyone who'd trade in a used 3DS at GAME this early in time. :P
