So I've been looking a lot at the 3DS' library lately, I guess because mine is pilling up before I can play them all (I mainly play and collect JRPGs, which is something that when you have a social life / job / relationship, you can't throw your full weight behind!), and as a bit of a collecting nut, I can't help but wonder if this is the generation that we see some ludicrous values on 3DS titles later into the console's lifespan.

My reasoning lies not only in a seemingly solid library, as we come to expect from a Nintendo portable, but the fact that in the wake of the 3DS E-Shop and more of us buying games digitally, that there are a few games not being brought to the E-Shop will become even more of the obscure titles for the system (here's looking at you Farm Simulator 2012). They always seem to end up being pretty region specific too. For example, Germany's 3DS has a whole host of games for girls called Pferd & Pony, that I imagine will do a similar thing to My Horse and Me on the X360, as they'll end up being a bitch to get for 'complete collections', same with Senran Kagura Burst, a PAL only and pretty conversational title.

But as a JRPG nut who could often subsidize his collecting habits by importing from the states (and still will, I bought an NTSC 3DS), it's becoming more and more apparent that regional markets will grow BECAUSE these games on the most part can't be imported. Even if a game like Cave Story 3D sees a reprint in a region, that means nothing for the value of it in another. I also know Rhythm Thief is pretty obscure in the states, but very easy to pick up in Europe.

So what are your bets on games that are worth tracking down in the PAL territories? Are there any GER / Scandianvia / UK only games that look to rise in value? More importantly, are there any games that are worth playing in this category? I loved Cave Story 3D, but not enough to splash £60+ on it, so I'd rather pick these things up now rather than later!

I think now that there's digital releases, demand for boxed copies are going to go down. Before the buyers of rare games included people who just wanted to play the game, but now there's pretty much only collectors who do that. Exceptions exist for games which don't have a digital version, but I can't think of one that might go rare at the moment. I think collectors editions might be worth a tad more in the future though, especially the big ones like Bravely Default (save for the rather meh figurine).

Oh, and careful with the language. Family site and whatnot.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

If that situation arises I think they will just be added to the eshop even if they are not there at the moment. Even more so because it will keep the value high - whereas a reprint could have the opposite effect.

I doubt it. There's practically no quality game on 3DS for europe that wasn't released in the US as well. Few exceptions may include the Limited versions of Bravely Default and Senran Kagura, but only because of the bonus stuff.
