Unfortunately there is not a demo for Ocarina of Time. Nintendo stated that demos would be arriving at some point this year. I'm nearly certain that they will demo at least one of their big 4 titles coming out this fall/winter (Star Fox, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus). As to which one it will be and when they start sending us demos? I have no clue.

Having demos allows for users to make up their own minds on the quality of a game. If a game stinks the user can get a good feel for it via a demo. If the game stinks the user won't buy it. If the user doesn't buy it then the developer loses money while that money is probably allocated to quality games the user liked. That money can then be used by the good developer to develope more quality titles while the bad developer may not develop as many titles. We vote with our dollars people. If we're not given demos it limits what we can do. It makes no sense for a company like Nintendo to not work out a way to offer free demos when they've been coming out constantly chirping about game quality.

Well I doubt it'll be for Star Fox considering that's going to release in what, a month's time now?

Nintendo seems to loathe giving away demos or "apps". I don't doubt the first statement - nothing 3rd parties make can be set to less than 200 yen. The next bit is dubious, demos more than likely are considered special cases. However, this started because of a save data transfer tool that they couldn't sell for less than 200 yen, so I dunno, Nintendo doesn't like to give anything away.

All of which is 1st party. If a 3rd party puts something free in the eShop, Nintendo has to pay the costs of hosting and distributing, they actually lose money so another company get get the marketing, publicity, or goodwill generated by the "free" things you listed. Nintendo doesn't like to do that, look how long it took to get WiiWare demos and these days they hardly post them.

Hoping this is wrong, but apparently #rd partys aren't aloud to give demos and games for free The Bright side, I think Nintendo can give demos for free. Heres the link http://mynintendonews.com/2011/08/15/nintendo-3ds-you-cant-of... :{

Games "journalists" are terrible. Nintendolife excepted, fansites show precious little ability to report accurately or factcheck before jumping to conclusions.

The actual story is this: 3rd parties can't offer free software through the eShop. Demos are not counted as eShop software.

Some twit took two and two and ended up with eight.

The other hardware publishers are happy to do this, for good reason: successful 3rd party games are a good thing for the hardware.

Costs? What costs? The costs they put upon themselves? I'm sorry, do you work for Nintendo, because if not how do you know if they don't like doing it?

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Your free demo of Super Mario 3D Land will be arriving this Fall via Spotpass or manually through Nintendo eShop. Thank You.

I believe this, but could I get a source so I can see the 3D Mario Land demo confirmation? Thank you.

scratch that 20 ambassador games. they owed it to us, it was not free, i bought them about 80 dollars !!
and so far i agree, nintendo is giving us a lot of stuff with time. you cant un a business if youre giving your work for free hahahaha

if developpers are scared of losing sellings with their demos, well they just have to stop that BS and create real games. if youre not willing to give a demo of your product, then you know what you did was bad, wrong or scrap. Usually, youre supposed to be proud of giving it to people so they can see how nice what you just created is.

And money isnt always easy to pull off for a game, for me anyway, So im quite resistant to buy anything unless i know im buying quality or something worthy. i got a house, a car and a family. i got no need to waste money on bad products.

I wouldn't say that...
Just because they decided to drop the price of their system doesn't mean they owe anything to people before the price drop.
I bought my 3DS for the original price with no idea that I'd ever be receiving these games like this, so to me it does seem like a nice, free bonus.

Nintendo doesn't owe you, or anyone else, a thing. You buy a product, you got the product. Nowhere in that sale was a contract to supply you with additional games.
