Topic: No definite "sweet spot"

There is one thing that has been bugging me about my Nintendo 3DS: When there are objects on the screen with a certain contrast to the background, there seems to be no "sweet spot".
What I mean with that is that both eyes will see their corresponding image but also the other image with an opacity of 5-15%.
For instance: There's a bright object in front of a muddy background. My eyes will see the image in 3D but also a duplicate of the bright object will be right next to it.
Here's a depiction of what my left eye sees:
Untitled
No matter what I do, I can't find a position or light setting where this ugly error doesn't appear.
This problem is driving me crazy. Has anybody else experienced such problems yet?

Do you mean near Rayman's feet?

I've not noticed that, but I would say that despite the slider being free to place anywhere within its range of movement, there are definite steps to the depth of the 3D effect. WHen I have the slider full, in most games it's like looking at two pictures. As I slide down it goes back to one image. Slide down further, two images, down again and it's one image but less depth.

That actually happened to me a couple minutes ago when I was looking at my own Mii's black hair in contrast to the white background of the Mii Maker area. I got a little scared, but then I noticed none of the other Miis were being shown that way.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I've noticed that your distance from the screen and vertical angle also matter. Try holding it a bit closer and slightly up or down. In any case, I do know what you're talking about with ghosting in very rare scenarios, but it's only come up once or twice, never consistently in a game for me.

Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense.

Trust me, I've tried all kinds of angles and distances.
In most situations the opacity of the other image can be reduced to an estimated 1%, but there are times when I can't get it below (an estimated) 5%, like in one situation where Rayman was in front of a black background.
This thing almost ruins the 3DS for me.

I had the same problem yesterday at Best Buy while I trying out their demo unit. Of course, the store's lighting was horrible (WAY too bright/reflective) and the system was fastened at about the right height for a 6-year-old which meant I had to half crouch/stand (very uncomfortable indeed).

Again, trust me, the lighting in the room I'm in is ideal. I've experimented with other lighting before.
It's not just Rayman 3D, I've also seen this on the menu screen and on some of the AR-pictures I've taken.

Give your eyes time to adjust to this type of 3D.

Same. Holding it close seems to be the trick for me.

My eyes can perfectly see the 3D and haven't had any problems with adjusting to it.
I have proof that the screen itself is the problem: When I close one eye, I can still see the "ghostly" second image lying on the image.

Just return it to the store you bought it from and get a new one. You have your receipt?

I noticed a bit of reflection ghosting early on when I first got the machine, but now I don't see it at all.

That's what I was thinking. Some 3D elements in games are implemented in a peculiar way.

What this is called is Crosstalk.

It's a very common problem with almost all 3D LCD TV's on sale right now, and the 3DS seems to be no different. Plasma TV's are the only displays without any crosstalk at all, but it would be unwise to use a plasma display in a handheld console.

From Wiikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosstalk_(electronics)
"In Stereoscopic 3D Displays, "crosstalk" refers to the incomplete isolation of the left and right image channels so that one leaks or bleeds into the other - like a double exposure"

Unfortunately it's just something you're going to have to put up with. It's not going to completely ruin your 3D experience because it will only happen when there's a very contrasty scene with a bright colour against a dark colour.

I noticed this in Ridge Racer with the white tags above the A.I's cars, I just turned them off and my problem was solved.

I'm pretty sure if Nintendo somehow used little mini Plasma screens(if that's even possible) which not only would produce better PQ and motion, but the viewing angle/sweet spot would most likely be greatly improved.

As for LCD or LED LCD 3D tvs....barfs* Let's forget about the weaker PQ when stacked up against a plasma, the 3D itself sucks because if you move your head out of the sweet spot the 3D takes a hit....Plasma's don't have this problem at all.

Erm... I might be wrong, but I'm almost positive that plasma screens are terrible for gaming. Images such as menus and other stationary GUIs will burn into the display after a short while.

ThirdComing i would suggest to relax.
Your system is just fresh to you and u have to get used to it.
I know this ghosting i had it too on fridays and saturdays , but now finally on sundays i can most time perfectly adjust to the 3D.
It all depends on your 3D depth slider e.g. the higher the 3D the higher distance to the screen you need to get full 3D.
So just experiment with the system and relax. I think its mostly relaxing and getting used to it rather than software error.

Remember those silly broken HD Tvs when Wii came out ? This was adjusting too ... the people had to learn not to swing like apes and let loose the remote!!

PS: havnt played Rayman, so cant comment on it

I vaguely noticed it when I first got the system and it was on max brightness. I haven't noticed since reducing the brightness, so maybe that helps make the extra image too weak to be noticeable.

I think there's a common theme that, in the early days of playing a 3DS there can be issues with ghosting and duplicated images. I certainly noticed it on day 1, and my eyes felt pretty funky after only a short play-time. It's a graduate thing, as day 2 and 3 the ghosting became less of a problem and my eyes didn't feel quite as strange.

I'm now getting to the stage where I don't have any problems. I read something written by optometrists (is that a word?) saying that the 3DS worked eye muscles in new ways; kind of like going to the gym after months of no exercise. I think they argued that, with moderate use, the 3DS actually helps strengthen these eye muscles.

Just to be safe I do turn off the 3D every 30-45 minutes and take a break, but apart from that it's starting to work well.
