Topic: No "Data Backup" for PKMN X/Y Digital Download Edition

I made a rather alarming discovery after downloading my copy of Pokémon X...

I am unable to perform a Data Backup for Pokémon X

Following my previous experience with a Data Management corruption this was something which I thought might just save the day should it happen again. But it turns out it doesn't!!! My Fire Emblem Awakening save data backs up fine, but Pokémon X says that it is unable to backup my save game data. I find this most alarming. I really hope that they fix this in a future 3DS update. I guess I'll just have to live dangerously.

This is less worrisome for me since I can move Pokemon over to the Pokemon Bank so the most vital part of the save data can live there

Yes but the problem being if you encounter a 'System Save Data Management Corrupted' error and you haven't physically backed up your entire SD card on your computer or moved Pokémon over to the Pokémon Bank then ultimately you're screwed. Part of the deciding factor about getting the Digital Download version of Pokémon X (rather than cartridge) for me was because Ninty had introduced this 'Save Game Data Backup' tool in a recent update... but now it's completely useless for the game in question. Had I known that this wouldn't work with Pokémon X/Y then I 'would' have brought a safer cartridge version of the game.

A petition has been started to badger Ninty in to giving us the option to backup our Save Game Data. PLEASE SIGN IT and SHARE this far and wide, this is important, nay essential, for those of us with Digital Downloads of Pokémon X/Y.

Thanks!

Why not, you know, just have them fix the glitch? They've been known to do that in the past... just sayin'...

Because that doesn't protect against potential 3DS save game Data Management errors occurring... it's happened to me once before and I annoyingly lost 30 hours of gameplay save data from Fire Emblem Awakening digital download (I've already got 36 hours racked up on Pokémon X so far - to give you an idea of how much I play Pokémon I have over 800 hours on White version alone, which is obviously cartridge based and safer - it even survived a go in the washing machine amazingly).

Copy and paste onto your computer once in a while. And soon you could use the pokemon bank to keep the pokemon safe.

And I really don't think this is a necessary feature... what brand and size of sd card are you using? Seems strange for it to dump all your data.

I'm using a 8GB ScanDisk SD Card. I do occasionally take physical backups on to my computer but it is rather time consuming and fiddly (and increases the risk of corruption of data - especially if accidently removing the SD while the 3DS is turned on, which may have caused my previous corruption). Yes the Pokémon Bank (once it's opened) will be a good idea but it still isn't a backup solution - either my precious 'mon will be on my 3DS or they'll in the bank - pot luck where they'll be if/when it happens again. A 3DS save game data backup would be a far more streamlined and elegant solution and not too hard for Ninty to implement tbh. As far as I know the data wasn't 'dumped' but the Data Management Database became corrupt and had to recreate itself from scratch losing the records of the data rather than the data itself.

Perhaps they want you to use the GameSync feature which I think saves your save file online

It still works after 800 hours of use and a washing machine cycle with no problems?!
Wow.

well the backup would be an opening for cheats....
imagine someone trading a single pokémon over GTS with a friend and loading a backup from before the trade and repeating the process over and over to have an infite stock of any pokémon or any item that can be held!!!

Well it happened! I didn't have a save game data corruption this time but there was a corruption in the data on my SD Card, everything worked fine 'except' I just couldn't download anything from the eShop. The only way to resolve this problem was to format the SD Card and start again. :/ I rechecked the save game backup facility for PKMN X, still nope. In the end I managed to export all my 'mon to the PokeBank and then format my card, then download everything from the eShop again. So I lost all my PKMN save game data and am starting again but at least my 'mon survived (I didn't realise that items couldn't be saved in the PokeBank tho. Meh!).

How does Datel Powersaves deal with modding save files for Pokemon.
