Topic: Nintendo's DLC policy....

Hey guys, I was hoping you could all clarify something for me...

I distinctly remember Nintendo telling us all that its approach to DLC would be measured and only if it added value to the game for the customer. Does anyone else remember Nintendo's statements around DLC, or am I just going crazy (entirely possible, granted)? It would have been a good 6-12 months ago.

But, if so, what the hell is with Sparkle Snapshots?

Maybe your thinking about this?
If so, they said that they want you to have a complete game and then add on top of that instead of locking content that should be included in the main game.
You know, the basic business talk where they say all those nice things that in reality mean nothing.

Its in the same way that is you bought a 99 (game) from the ice cream man (nintendo) , then thats what you would get. A COMPLETE 99 ice cream with the cone and flake.... BUT if you want sprinkles (unnecessary DLC) , now that, that will cost extra.
Trouble is some companies like Koei Tecmo gave the sprinkles for free with Ice creams like Samurai Warriors Chronicles and Dead or Alive, so that makes people angry that why cant all the Sprinkles be free...

....other companies like Capcom also have a tendancy for charging extra for flakes when everybody knows that is part of a 99 and that is completly wrong.

...anybody else feel hungry. lol

What I am saying is that although some companies have given free DLC content, Nintendo hasnt lied to us because Sparkle Snapshots is a complete game (if thats what you call it?!?) and the add on content is just that add on... but the moment they start going down Capcoms route of unlocking features that are already coding into the game and are not just "add on content" but instead a huge chunk of game that should have been included from the start, then they will be going back on their word.

Just wait and see dude..... Nintendo has to appeal to alot of gamers and resoure faith to a couple as well..... they will probly have some DLC but not go over board! I think that wat one of the main missions for Wii U! Also not all DLC is bad some of it is useful/ okay IMO. The Zombie maps in COD Black Ops come to mind....

DLC has gone from bad to worse over the years. It was once used to give you extra value in your game, but now some companies are asking you to pay for parts of the game that should already be there anyway.

Nintendo hasn't gone back on their word with Sparkle Snapshots, the question for me though... why would you give this "game" DLC in the first place? Just give us some extra's on MK7, you know you want to.

Yeah Capcom sells you the ice cream with the sprinkles, and then charges you extra if you actually want to eat them.

If Nintendo does something similar this site will hear a lot from me. lol

They mean that their games will be complete and won't have any of that "Pay to do more" crap. DLC will be optional and not required.

Find me one single game where DLC is compulsory.

Even Capcom games with their on-disc DLC are perfectly playable without buying the DLC.

Nintendo seems to be modelling its DLC policy of Farmville here. For a company that was claiming it was taking the high road with DLC, they were flat out lying to consumers.

Mind letting us that don't know what it is you're talking about understand?

what are you talking about? if Sparkle Snapshots is just like the original, it's perfectly fine on its own if purikura is your thing. the DLC packs should just add new specifically-themed stuff to it, which is fine.

Thats easy COD: black ops play the game for yourself and you'll see the maps arent that bad. You can pick the maps that you like/hate too. They even have maps for the original zombies! ps dont take this the wrong way.... if FPS arent ur thing dont get it....

It would be weird if an MK7 pack was Pre installed in the game, so they left it out

I specifically remember Nintendo saying in an interview somewhere that it's going to do DLC "right" - not the interview linked to above, a different one. As I said in the start, perhaps I'm going nuts, but the rhetoric I remember reading of Nintendo way back when it first announced it was doing DLC was deceptive enough that I assumed that Nintendo would not be doing the most hardcore exploitative DLC possible.

I thought Nintendo said they'd do DLC for free? But FE awakening doesn't have free DLC

@waltz: what are you talking about with 'hardcore exploitative DLC'? i do not understand why you're flipping out so hard over Sparkle Snapshots, of all things — again, if it's just like the original, the base application is already packed full of options — paying a little bit more for extra packs of specifically-themed decorations isn't a bad idea to help liven it up. the only problem with it is that purikura's kind of a niche thing outside Japan.
