I recently broke my regular sized new 3ds, and Nintendo was unable to repair the water damage, so they offered me a new 2ds XL in exchange, the problem lies in the fact that I am unable to use the XL's because of the size of my hands and need a regular sized one to play comfortably. Still waiting a response but would like some input on the reasoning behind why i am unable to receive the same product I had. it was a super mario white n3ds
@Pikathunder7 The standard New 3DS has been discontinued for awhile so Nintendo likely don't have replacements of that model to offer. Meanwhile the New 2DS XL is the only 3DS model that isn't discontinued so that's why they're offering it as a replacement for your New 3DS.
i dont think either of the XL's are discontinued, i would be happy with a regular 2ds if they didnt do that stupid unfoldable design with it and made it look normal,
I believe the New XL was discontinued at least in Europe, bit as far as I know the regular 2DS is still kicking.
Funnily enough, I thought it was a huge missed opportunity to return to the clamshell design for the XL. I would've LOVED a "new" system in the form factor of the regular 2DS.
I like the 2DS so much that when I replaced mine with a new 3DS XL and transfered my games, I started a new account on the 2DS and bought games for it again.
It fits well enough in cargo pockets. And backpacks. And most purses.
I guess the downside is that you really need a case or carrying bag for it so it doesn't get searched up. I still use the original Nintendo bag they sold back then it was new. Haven't been able find anything better for it.
I do miss how handhelds used to fit in pockets. My New 3DS XL does technically fit in my pocket, but not comfortably.
This. This is one of the reasons why I never have been fond of XL units.
In the US, the only designs that are still actively sold are the 2DS, New 3DS XL, and New 2DS XL. I envy you for even being able to get a regular New 3DS unit as it was never formally (and bafflingly) sold here. Unfortunately, the above three are all you'll be able to choose from directly from Nintendo, I think.
There's always the secondhand market, but the regular New 3DS units are usually astronomically priced. It's a shame that the systems in the 3DS family are region-locked, otherwise this wouldn't be as much of an issue.
If you want a similar size to what you had before, I'm afraid you'll have to stick with a regular 2DS. If not, it'll have to be a New XL system.
