Looks like the eShop is back up with as far as I can tell absolutely no changes. So I think that should probably clear up the hype and the freak out..........

@Chibi Longtime no see. I think tendoboy was suggesting taking out the SD Card as a "fix" to prevent data loss, not removing the maintenance message.

@tendoboy: How was he to know that was going to happen. Sheesh dude.

I know, right? There are some people on this site who are just WAITING with baited breath to prove somebody wrong or imply that someone didn't do the right thing or didn't think ahead. I guess it's the 'gamer' spirit in all of us here. lol. But yeah, people need to calm down and think before they reply and realize that sometimes, Nintendo really is to blame for some things. Btw, to the guy who lost all his data, you should contact customer service, demand a refund or for them to fix your account so you can download all your games again. I think that's probably the only solution you've got at this point. Good luck! Keep us informed. Sorry about your... uhm... loss.

I keep getting an error code while trying to purchase Gargoyle's Quest. Does this have anything to do with the maintenance thing?

Lol'd at the last sentence.

Personally I'm holding out for the refund, but I won't be able to contact them until sometime tomorrow.

Yep. I was getting an error code inside of the e-shop earlier this morning (about 8 hours ago!!) before the e-shop went "down", here it is, 8 hours later and its still down last time i checked... You shouldn't even be able to login to the e-shop, you should be getting a message right before the little orange bot thing jumps around... Earlier i was able to connect but got the error message before purchasing anything, sounds like you are in the same boat.

I'll have to check tomorrow @HeroOfTime. It'll be nice if they're there but losing my progress in like over 30 games would suck.

Yeah, I suspected as much though as the Wii and DSi shops were both having maintenance too lol

It was probably just them increasing capacity or something similar. If they were planning on doing it it makes sense to do it before the September 1st update.....

Yeah that was my reaction, except more angry as you can imagine. I got my 3DS back from repairs today, and all the data was intact save one DSiWare game, so I just copied it back onto the system from my backup save on my SD Card. At that point my 3DS data was exactly the same as it had been before I sent the system in.

Later tonight I wanted to check the eShop, having forgotten it was down. When I exited it, it acted like I had just downloaded Nintendo Video and Pokedex 3D and deleted literally every other downloaded piece of software from my system and my SD Card (I still have the DSiWare backup saves but that doesn't meaning anything if I lost the licenses, which time will tell).

@tendoboy What? Also, all my SD Card "3DSWare" data was deleted as well.

Before you connected to the eShop, you should have removed your SD card so nothing like that could happen.

Tendoboy's post qualifies for the biggest post of fail ever.

If you check the news section, there's a message saying there'll be more maintenance work on the 30th August, GMT 21:00 - 1:00.

Seconded. I actually checked this yesterday when I was in a McDonalds drive-thru before I put my SD card back in my 3DS. As it turns out, you can't connect to the eShop without an SD card in your 3DS!

Exactly.

@ the SD Card comments

... it gets even more ridiculous. Even if you could connect to the eShop without the SD card it still wouldn't have made much of a difference. As Oddy said more recently his licences have been deleted so, presumably, the eShop noticed this and cleaned things up. My guess is when Oddy sent his/her 3DS to repairs they reset his eShop account... or something.

.......... or they just swapped a broken 3DS for a working 3DS
