Topic: Nintendo contradicts the ending to LttP

we all know A Link between Worlds takes place years after Link to the Past, right?*that makes it a a sequel *(maybe not a direct sequel, but it is a sequel).
this is the ending to Link to the Past;
Untitled
this is the trailer for A Link Between Worlds.

notice that in the trailer at the 1:04 minute mark, Link picks up the Mastersword, contradicting the image above. so if it wasn't obvious before, it is now to everyone; Nintendo doesn't give a crap about the timeline, they never have. it was just put together to appease the fans.

Do you have any idea of how many times the master sword has gone to sleep again... forever! In the past?

Besides, that could mean the spirit within the sword (Fi), which spoke to Link in ALttP.

How do we know this is the same Link, and that this was before ALTTP? Photos from A Link to the Past make it look like ALTTP Link is older than ALBW.
Perhaps this is the beginning of a New Timeline of Legend of Zelda, where Link loses to Ganon as a child, or an adult, considering A Link to the Past is the first game of the "Hero is Defeated" timeline.

Here is one theory of your Nintendo lied argument. When they said that the master sword sleeps again forever it can depend on who's telling the story really. A Link Between Worlds take place many years after ALttP so for the people of ALttP they would be dead by the time A Link Between Worlds takes place. THus it would be forever for them.

But yeah I totally agree about the timeline just being created to appease fans. Heck I dont even acknowledge it.

I immediately approve of this theory. Though if it was accurate it should say "Master, there's an 80% chance the Master Sword will sleep forever!" Someone make a romhack or something of that, that would be amazing.

I don't really think having a sword go to sleep and wake up later affects the timeline in any way.

Considering the same link from alttp can use the master sword again twice in his life in the oracle series

all of the other times the master sword was involved, it was either;
a.)in a separate timeline
or
b.) took place before LttP
nintendo has already said that this game in particular takes place years after LttP. this is a sequel, but not a direct sequel, that means this new game takes place after LttP, and the ending to LttP has been ruined.

Oh yes, a one word continuity error erupts the entire timeline. This doesn't even compare to the other errors and unexplained events, why does this really matter? Why is the Temple of Time with the master sword so different each time Link goes to get it? How many alternate Hyrules are there? How does Ganon keep coming back from the dead? At the end of Skyward Sword, Demise states he will continue fighting Link and Zelda in future lives whereas in the Wind Waker, the King of Red Lions states he has no connection to the hero of time.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.

As I edited in my previous comment before...

The same Link from alttp uses the master sword again twice in the oracle series...

Yeah, it's more of a nice secret in these games, but still.

that actually makes sense. it is the legend of Zelda, after all. that means it all depends on who's telling it, and that hundreds of thousands of people could have changed the story. but still, even with that in mind, it really doesnt make sense to have the master sit in it's pedestal forever in one game, and have it come back in a game that takes place after it.

I know the timeline stuff overshadows the actual games occasionally, and that's a bad idea, but people's attempts to disprove it is so funny. "RETCONS?! WHAT IS THAT? NO TIMELINE!!!"

"I FOUND A PLOT HOLE SO IT NEVER HAPPENED GUYS! GEEZ!"

"I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE TIMELINE, SO I'LL KEEP TELLING YOU ABOUT HOW MUCH I DON'T CARE! THAT'LL SHOW YA!"

i think if you used this logic at a comic book site or something you would laughed out of the place. This is one of those things where someone hating on something is just getting so ridiculous and overdone and "stop having theories guys!" that I have to go against it despite being relatively indifferent to the whole thing. More people are defending the timeline and it's all your fault! Ha!

Call me crazy, but maybe Nintendo wasn't thinking that they would be making a sequel to A Link to the Past 12 years in the future.

If you want to be technical...

A Link the Past itself destroys the continuity!

Fi went to sleep forever at the end of Skyward Sword, yet in ALttP the sword talks to you.

Guess that means ALttP is a contradiction too, a contradiction with a contradictory sequel.

Nintendo could have changed it...where the mages or what ever thought it would rest forever but the new link had the power to remove it once more...dont go accusing when you haven't played the game...you dont even know the story plus LTTP was years before the timeline....

Legends are known to be inaccurate anyway, so this doesn't prove anything. And the timeline wasn't made to appease fans....it was made to make them stop asking for it

...and even then they're still spinning their heads over it. Fans can be so hilariously ridiculous :3

Oh, and like @kkslider5552000 pointed out, if the timeline is made official by Nintendo it's official regardless of continuity errors. And, since it's the Legend of Zelda the person who told the story of ALttP could have not known about an adventure that takes place however many years in the future.

To add to the whole depends upon who's telling it theory, in Wind Waker, after you defeat puppet Ganon, Ganondorf says that Link MUST be the Hero of Time reborn...

Guys, parallel dimensions and time travel make any occurrence or explanation valid... duh

Anyway, in the eyes of Link, perhaps he truly believed that would be the only one to ever use the blade. From what I can tell, Link(OoT) never drew the Master Sword in order for ALttP to happen. No one draws a blade, loses, then goes to put it back on the pedestal.

Yeah, for the downfall timeline to exist ocarina's Link must've been killed along with his mother before she could give him to the Deku Tree or Link simply failed/died/said no the Deku tree before he could draw the Master Sword.

Either that or someone simply picked up and relocated the sword after he died. Idk.
