Too bad the vita is already dead.

That's funny, I heard quite the opposite. The social networking features are far beyond what the 3DS offers, plus you get party chat, PS3-level HD graphics, a beautiful OLED touch screen (making iPhone ports much easier), dual analog sticks (something many PSP owners were crying about for years), Wi-Fi, 3G, "Near" GPS-based social networking (like StreetPass, but much more advanced), etc. etc. The only thing holding the Vita back is the expensive mandatory memory cards (since the Vita has minimal built-in memory).

and once again, none of the reasons you listed are "I think Vita will have better games" so who cares?

Have you seen the games coming out for the Vita? PS3-style games on a handheld is a huge selling point for many people. We finally have a handheld that can reproduce current-gen graphics, meaning handhelds can get the exact same games that the consoles are getting. Uncharted: Golden Abyss looks amazing.

which is my exact problem. If you think that's awesome, cool, but I really can't stand when people say they want a gaming system and then don't bother talking about the actual games. I'm pretty sure I've talked about LKS2 more than most despite having no plans on getting the system.

I haven't seen this mentioned outside of the price cut, ambassador apology games now dropping(gba), and monster hunter the digital crack for asians, but what about the flaws and obvious points of stupidity Sony has pushed with Vita. Don't get me wrong, I loved that PSP I had more than DS at times due to the games it had, had some damn good times, but pirates killed the system with mass theft running off developers(so I sold it.)

Sony is asking $250 for the system. As pointed out, certain features that should work on the fly(browser) don't, but that can be addressed in one of many surely overkill often OS updates to come Sony is famous for. What about the games and their dependencies? One thing no one is saying here is that most of the HUGE key titles won't run with the system alone like Uncharted. They're REQUIRING you buy a very unique Sony only made memory card that they're not specing out the details to so SanDisk and others can undercut them. Unlike the PS1, PS2, PSP, they're not going to let many games run w/out the ability to save. The smallest card I think was like 4GB and they want $30 for the card, and up to 32GB they go and that one is like $130~ or something near that. So you'll buy a system ($250), at least one game ($40-50), and then have to buy a $30-130 memory card so they work. Now that's how you kick someone in the nuts. They're using memory cards with mass storage like the 3DS uses, they allow the possibility to save data to them, but they're requiring a memory card to get more cash out of people.

Also I think going by past performance, it's safe to say the smart person would wait around a year or slightly more, they will then do a bundle or a v2 system in a bundle for the same price as launch or lower ($200) with a small memory card(the $30 one most likely), a game, and probably a download game/movie voucher off PSN. That would be the time to strike.

Yup! It seems even with a few bad habits nintendo had for the past 3 years before 3DS was released, its always been easier on the pockets.

Good observations, I'm really eager to see how the PS Vita will do.

Me too! Though I want it, the memory card thing seems to be a turn-off.

In other words Sony will not be able to afford to reduce the price of the Vita even if they wanted to unlike Nintendo who was in a much better position and was able to cut the price of the 3DS as much as they could.

So Sony is on the verge of bankruptcy? The entire company, or just Sony Computer Entertainment?

The whole company. Sony Computer Entertainment actaully made its first profit in 5 years but because of Sonys other interests such as its TV business which has had losses for 8 years straight and expecting to make another 2.2 Billion loss this year. Sony is a big enough company to ride this out because if its been making billion dollar losses for a LONG time now, but what it does mean is that the Company relies on investment and if it has a struggling financial rating then that means they have to offer their investors better deals to continue to bring in funding which usually in turn means the consumer pays more for their products. How this affects the Vita is that Sony will not be able to trim much off the price of the hardware from which will already push SCE into the red again due to already selling at a loss and also other products such as their proprietary memory cards which you also need to play certain games.

Have you used onlive on a tablet / smartphone. You literally get current gen console games on a handheld device no matter how powerfull it is. The only reqirement is a decent broadband connection and unlimited because it relies on 'cloud' gaming, and because one of the UK partners is the supplier of my broadband I get pretty much decent free wifi everywhere.
Dont get me wrong I dont see it as replacement to a dedicated handheld device, but it does mean I can play my home console/PC games on a relativly cheap tablet with or without my 360 pad plugged into its USB port. Only 25 games have been converted to full touchscreen control(including Dirt3) at the moment but others are in proccess of being converted to Touchscreen/Accelerometer control such as La Noire.

I'd like a Vita too, but I won't drop $250 for one and have to buy a memory card so a game will work with that. I had a PSP2000 and 3000 unit (2K got broke by a douchebag on an airplane flight being impatient.) I only got rid of it due to the rampant piracy that drove off anything of value coming out for it after MGS Peacewalker short of that God of War game I have on PS3 now anyway. I waited and got the 2K bundle deal, used no less by someone who bought it and got confused (Kentucky redneck impulse buy seriously) to sell it 1hr later supposedly. I had like 30 games or so for the system off and on over the life, loved it, and gave me a lot that DS failed to do at times in some of its lulls it had.

Vita I feel will be the same. While the 3DS is on the level of somewhere between a Wii and a 360/PS3(it can do the particle effects, lighting tricks, and other mipmap and junk, just less polygons) the Vita is like nearly a portable PS3 and will have cross platform stuff too. I'm not big on consoles as handhelds, but Sony did have some amazing stuff and it was and is easier for me to stretch out on a couch, bed, or waiting somewhere with one. I'm so going to get that Uncharted game, but I see it as a $200 box lunch type setup with Vita+Uncharted+4GB memory card+voucher) repeating what they did heaps of times with PSP when I jump in. TO call the system a joke, dead in the water, or just plain fubar is ignorant. They will suffer though, it'll get a huge global fanboy push at first then fall off once they're satisfied and primarily it will be system cost and the unique memory card scam racket. They can then bundle, price drop, and maybe (not sony like) drop the greed and allow third party legit knockoff cards, and that would help spur developing sales again.

So all that money Sony Computer Entertainment made from the PS1 and PS2 just went down the drain? But Sony (the whole company) has many more products to fall back on (TV's, cameras, DVD/Blu-ray players, movies, music, VAIO laptops, etc.). A lapse in their gaming division will not make the whole company go bankrupt. It's the same situation with Microsoft; if the Xbox division goes under, the rest of the company will be fine due to their extensive Windows enterprise.

You misread what I had put. Its actually SCE that made some profit and some of their other departments that had been dragging them down. They are being undercut and out performed on the TV side, the roits in London destroyed / looted a whole load of Sony warehouse stock and their music / television department havnt been performing as well as they should. The company wont go bankrupt but all this adds to the overall cost of their products. They even said so after the riots, they said due to the excessive theft and damage to stock that this would have an effect on price and distribution in the UK. Hence the overall point is that Sony cannot afford to be competitive with the price of the Vita as SCE is having to make up the shortfall in their other areas. PS3 is finally making profits on their hardware but that will now start getting eaten up by the initial losses of the Vita. Nintendo doesnt have that problem and if it was necessary they could cut prices to remain competitive and attractive to the market.

What the Crap. The digital version of Hot Shots golf for vita needs an online pass. The retail copy comes with Online mode while the cheaper digital game needs to buy a online pack for $10 more. So in some cases the Digital price will be more than the retail the copy. (even though the digital is cheaper in the first place)

Also the Vita is on my must buy list for 2013.

Yeah, Sony joined the whole online pass bandwagon

Though I'm not sure why they would do this for a digital copy......it's not a "used" game

Just watched the side by side comparison of the 3DS with the Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro attached and the PS Vita... and the Vita is still slightly bigger. I was actually suprised because the Circle Pad attachement looked huge. The Vita is as thin as most tablets whereas the 3DS, especially with the Circle Pad Pro is quite chunky.

The Vita is a beautiful system with excellent capabilities. In terms of what it can do, it is far superior to the 3DS. The trouble comes with the price and the fact that many adult gamers are satisfied with the quick fixes of iOS and Android gaming on the portable front, preferring to sit down in front of the TV for "real" games. While I'm sure the Vita will do well at launch, it will have to go down in price to be successful in the long term, especially with the whole memory card thing.

I do believe that the 3DS and Vita both have their own audiences with some crossover. They can both be successful in their own right, the same way that the Wii and Xbox 360 were both very successful consoles this generation. While many gamers want their console to "beat" the "enemy," the simple truth is that you can make a profit without being in first place. I hope they both have lots of good games and much success, which can only be good for the industry as a whole.

There are some videos on Youtube that show comparisons between the PS Vita and PSP 3000. The Vita is much thinner than the PSP, and it's about half an inch wider.

See? It's about the same size as a PSP 1000 (the original PSP). Also, notice how the Vita's D-pad is more + shaped, it isn't 4 separate buttons as on other PlayStation controllers.

In terms of giving people rich experiences of playing mobile games its not better or worse.

Only thing the DS is lacking is Downloadable DS games.

Still it has a way better launch then the 3DS had.

Sucks that by the time the Vita is coming out a Salvo of 3DS goodnesss at the same time.

If the Vita had video-out capabilities, then it could become a true hybrid portable / home console, making the PS3 irrelevant.

Surprised? Sony was the first one to test the waters with this on the handheld market with their 3rd SOCOM game for the PSP and it went over well for them so they've kept it up and since EA and many others are in on it too. Honestly I kind of support it which I know pisses people off, but I used to work in the gaming ind and undercutting from piracy and used game sales help put me out of work a decade ago. Funny thing is it's mostly all centered on Gamestop undercutting companies with their $5 less priced used games and returns allowed on used to 'test' games out while only giving a pittance on trade-in value. They know they'd never sell all those used copies but they do know they lose a lot of sales still to them regardless if full price at $40 or if someone waits for it to come down some.

Here we go with the used game sales stuff. So you don't want people to be able to trade in games or buy used if they can't afford new games? That's taking away someone's consumer rights.

Every single industry supports the consumer's right to trade, buy used, resell, etc. That's the whole point of eBay, after all. People buy used cars all the time, and the auto industry is doing just fine. Don't blame the consumer, blame GameStop. Used game sales aren't killing the industry, it's GameStop's shady business practices that need to be stopped.

Meh. This won't kill gamestop and only make them lost customers.

and its not like gamestop is the only one.

I don't get why some people sit behind the consoles power as the main reason to buy it. 3DS has some great games right now so i'm happy i own one. The 3DS may be weak but it has what i want. Where as the Vita is far more powerful, but none of the games are peaking my interest. Plus if i wanted to play console level games, i would play them on a console. I don't need to carry around games designed for sit down play in my pocket. Granted if i'm at a friends house i could pull it out and play. However now my friends has no chance of playing unless he has one, which isn't likely. I will buy a Vita if it can show me some games that actually interest me, not a bunch of games riding off hype and franchise record. I want to see some originality and creativity. The 3DS has done that for me many times over. Now don't go accusing me of being fanboyish, I I will buy a Vita, if it releases something that appeals to me. I'm not going to avoid buying it or anything, just waiting patiently...
