Hey All
I just Registered and wanna share something with you. or.. more like taking something out of my chest.
I noticed some people are discussing wether they regret getting the New Nintendo 3DS XL.
Well, in my case im not sure if im regretting it or not. its quite peculiar, let me start from the beginning.
2 weeks ago, i believe i saw The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for this.. console named nintendo 3DS, somewhere on the internet. it caught my attention right away. you see, my last nintendo console was the N64 and last handheld console was the Gameboy Advance. so i have been "away" from nintendo for the last 13 years or so. my attention was.. "kidnapped" by my first PC. When i was introduced into PC gaming it was so... amazing and from that moment onward i couldnt see any other gaming platform than the PC. the fluidity of the mouse (like one big joystick that fits your hand which makes playing games so precise) and a gamepad with 102 keys at your disposal (you will probably use less than half but still..) made my eyes glow like Mario had gotten a Star.

So as i was saying earlier, 1 of my favourite games had a Remake apparently. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time .
"nintendo.. are you.. trying to open the door of time?" i asked.. after some research, it seems Majora's mask was also released for the 3DS. and at that moment i knew.. and so i opened the closet, i took a glance at my Link kid Costume and said.. "its time to go back.."

Went to the biggest electronic store in the area, and decided to purchase the latest 3DS console which seemed to be "New Nintendo 3DS XL". saw ocarina of time on the shelf, bought it. went home, went look in the internet for majora's mask, apparently there was a special edition of Majora's Mask. so, i went to ebay and bought it. i can officially say i got back in nintendo with a bang. But... openining the door of time...there had to be a price to pay. 2 days ago, found out that..back in 2002, the company "Rare", the ones that made.. Jet Force Gemini (my very first game for N64), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Conquer Bad Furday, Killer Instinct, Banjo-Kazooi among others..those were my all time favourite games .. this amazing company, that made my childhood the brightest and the most memorable ever, it seems that right on the year that i was swept away by pc.. Rare was going trough tough times and was ultimately bought.. by the evil Ganonasoijfsapjd... i mean... Microsoft.
I blame Nintendo for this. for not supporting them enough.. now that i can send all the hopes of seeing remakes of those down the drain, i also found out that Club Nintendo is shutting down 30 September. is this a bad year to join nintendo or what???
I should have known that Opening the Door of Time had its price...
i was thinking of buying the Wii U a few months from now, maybe christmas. but after all this, specially about Rare.. im having second toughts.

so do i regret it or not? sigh no clue.
for some of you who endured with Nintendo and have known this for years, i might have touched some old wounds and i ask you to forgive me and know that i JUST found out about this and i needed to get this off my chest.
or you might even feel offended because these arent reason enough for you to give up on nintendo, and i respect that, but for me its big. you have no idea the joy i had on my face when i saw those 2 remakes. and because of it i became hopeful that more of my favourite titles would have a remake as well. but that wont be the case.. oh well it might have been worth it just for those 2 games.

Thank you for your time.

I agree with arronishere. I understand your disappointment to some degree, but why do you let Microsoft ruin your joy over the New 3DS and the two awesome games you just got?
I myself was in a similar situation 2 years ago. I never had a home console, but always watched an elementary school friend play Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, Pokemon Statium/Snap, Super Mario 64, ...
Also I had a Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance, though I never had that many games, those my mum got me were always great ones. While studying I remembered that I never got Pokemon Christal and played on the GBA for a while. In summer two years ago I suddenly remembered out of nowhere that I heard that Nintendo invented a 3D-handheld and how crazy amazing that was. I decided to buy one when I finished university, but did not manage to wait. I bought an XL version used with Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter 3U, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon Black 2 and Professor Layton and the ...... of Pandora (don't remember the english name). Fire Emblem really drew me in of those!
I admit I did a lot of research in advance to find out which games were good, so my at that time still imaginary backlog was already totally stuffed from the beginning. Since I have a job the backlog is still huge, but materialised itself somehow in my drawer.
Especially since I recognised that there are awesome DS-games aswell, that are often temptingly cheap. And my Wii U does not make things any better regarding this (for I also skipped the whole Wii-phase).

All in all I think you should not let anything spoil the fun you originally started to have with your 3DS. I was always more the handheld-girl, but I can recommend the Wii U anyway for multiplayer games. If you have friends or like to play online you won't be disappointed by Smash, Mario Kart and Splatoon. Apart from Smash Brothers Wii U and Mario Kart 8 (which both have retro courses/stages too), there are also three playable Zeldas (Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword on the Wii, Windwaker HD on Wii U and next year a new Zelda) and a lot of other original games worth your attention.
On 3DS a logical next step for your N64-time-travel would be Star Fox 64 3D. ;-]
A whole lot of other recommendations can be found in the two recommendation threads for Wii U and 3DS.
I think if you look at a few trailers the disappointment over Rare will soon be blown away by the awesome games available.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

@Adramor: Club Nintendo is being replaced. We don't know by what, but I assume that details of the new programme should follow very soon.

@arronishere: I laughed at the Genghis Khan reference, Temüjin is one my many favourite historical figures. Il have to check the games you mentioned. Thanks for the recommendations.

@Tiefseemiez: I never said i was going to completely give up on my 3DS XL, stuff it in the "oubliettes" and cry about it
it was damn too expensive for it to suffer such a fate . I am however discouraged in getting a Wii U. i will however play the hell out of my 2 awsome games, such nostalgia cannot be dismissed.
At the moment ive got Tomodachi Life (which is interesting to spend 10mins a day on it), a couple of Virtual console games, also for Nostalgia purposes: Super Mario bros 3 and Warioland 3. And Shingeki No Kyojin: Humanity in Chains (because im a fan of the anime).
My heart skipped a beat when you mentioned Starfox 64 3D, not gonna lie. i will RIGHT away search for it.
Smash i remember playing once on N64 and liked it. i will have to check it out as well.
I know no one who has a 3DS so no friends to play with. il have to stick to Single player games.
Thanks for the recommendations.

EDIT: About club nitendo, im glad something else is coming to replace it. i hope it is as good or better.

My gaming experience started with nintendo, or, to be more precise, with a gameboy colour and a copy of pokemon silver. it didnt just introduce me to the world of nintendo, but to the world of gaming as a whole.
from gameboy colour to advande SP, through DS lite and finally to the NEW 3DS XL I have today- its been a blast. I never was a home consoles type of guy, and rarely play the PC.
I think that, as mentioned above me, you should go all out and play the hell out of your 2 games =] and rembmber you have such a wide variety of games, both DS and 3DS ones. I personally use my NEW 3DS XL as my main console and play both DS and 3DS titles, and the big screens add to the fun.
welcome back to the world of nintendo =] there are games that are just waiting there for you to discover and expereince them =]

everyone needs to relax and enjoy the games that are released today and stop worrying what Nintendo will do in a year or two from now.
