Topic: Nintendo 3DS Release Rushed?

Some people may think the Nintendo 3DS was rushed because a lot of features are missing but they were told that they would come in future updates.

I think it's cool that we even have a messaging system. What are your thoughts?

Souls are for the weak. I flow with the darkness on the pathway of depression.

I kind of agree, but I don't really mind, as long as we get some steady quality software releases and get updates when promised and such, like the browser, the shop and so forth, then I am a very happy man!

true but let's face reality, so were the current gen consoles. And at least I probably won't have to wait 2 years before this system no longer feels like a waste of money.

It was rushed.. I am not worried because I know in the long run the device will be worth it.

It was pretty obvious the system was wrong a long time ago.

I think before winter when the launch lineup became clear and sometime in Jan/Feb when we were told some features wouldn't be available.

It also only took minor effort to look up the fact that March was the last month for Nintendo's fiscal quarter, and you begin to see that the launch was rushed to maximize the numbers for that fiscal quarter.

Who suffers in the end? Nintendo? Shareholders? Consumers?
Yup, consumers...Well the ones that buy the system anyways.

There's also the SLIGHT chance that Nintendo purposely withheld features as a sort of way to promote the system down the road without having to work on actual software. Like "Oh this is amazing new agencies! Look! 3DSWare is out! Tell the public!" even though that feature should've been ready out of the box.

I don't think "suffers" is the appropriate word for this. You guys would rather the 3DS launched two months from now with extra features included than the 3DS launch now with a free update due two months later? I'd like to hear the reasoning behind that.

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

@moosa: the reasoning would be that we'd get a completely whole system at launch as opposed to one still missing key features. sounds like a normal expectation to me, really.

Well let me put it this way. Whats the difference between "suffering" with a perfectly functional 3DS that doesn't yet have an online shop, an internet browser and a couple other things for two months, verses "suffering" without any 3DS at all for two more months?

I don't really consider using a DS/i instead 'suffering', considering it can still do the most important thing (for me) that the 3DS can do — play the full library of existing DS games. The DSi even has the advantage of still being able to play all your DSiWare, lol.

I think both hardware and software suffered because of the rush.

Well if your decision is to just not buy the 3DS until the update (or later), then it would make no difference to you whether or not they released the console now or two months from now.
I'm sure everyone would rather we just have the update already, but this thread isn't even about that. We're talking about the 3DS being released too soon. I think people are just being impatient and looking for reasons to complain anyways. Not that I don't have any complaints about the 3DS, but I think this is a completely reasonable thing for Nintendo to do. Honestly, its more a matter of Nintendo taking their time than it is of them "rushing."

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

YOU think it's perfectly functional, but there are those who think missing the browser that was said to be on the system and an online shop that sells new as well as classic games from old handhelds is not a perfectly functional machine.

IF Nintendo didn't announce these features and added them later, that's one thing, but these are core features of the system. It's a valid expectation to want these features to be available at launch.

In the end though, it doesn't matter. The system was rushed and it hurt the 3DS's image in some people eyes, it didn't bother other people at all, and some people just don't know these features exist on the system at all.

Like I said, the only ones who "suffer" are consumers. Nintendo doesn't care because it clearly met it's quota for systems sold for launch.

The release does feel rushed, but I am glad it came out sooner.

If you feel like it should have come out later then just wait until the release a good firmware update before you get one :3

I'm waiting for hardware myself

The name itself is evident that it was rushed without going into all that but I agree.

3DS works although it's such a lazy name on Nintendo's part, why not call it something original? DS3.

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.

LOL, consumers are suffering? I have a 3DS and I am having a ton of fun with it, how is that suffering?

@Starlight: how is 'DS3' any more original than 3DS? lol, it's worse IMO because it doesn't even get to play off'a the '3D' gimmick. it's still a dual-screened system, and i figure simple is best when naming handhelds anyway.
