Ok this was a weird news to wake up to, but here are the pros I can think of it:
-cheaper, 3DLess option for kids and other interested people
-it will hopefully come with the carrying bag from the video
-screens won't scratch themselves
-huh eh.... The select and start buttons are normal and easy to reach?
I really hope this isn't indicative of where Nintendo is going with future handhelds. If the 3DS successor looks anything like this hideous... thing, I might just be switching to Sony portables. None of which I've ever owned in my life.
Yes!!! A model that fixes the scratches on the top screen issues! Seriously though, at first I thought this was horrible, but after reading some comments, I guess this isn't that bad. It's basically a kid friendly 3DS. More durable and no 3D.

DON'T MAKE ME DO IT, NINTENDO.
Yeah, because you bought a 3DS solely based on how it looks, and not that it plays Nintendo games.
Atari 2600, Commodore 64/128, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, PC, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Wii, PSP, DSi, PS3, 3DSXL, WiiU

that thing must be horrible to play have you seen the L/R buttons? how will someone play games that use both the touch screen and the L/R buttons? it kills all kinds of shooters(including KI:U) and it means nintendo might stop the 3D to use more of the hardware in the future, this way the 3DS will be an DELUXE version just for being more comfortable, not even for the 3D(that might end unused from this point on)

Does the streetpass thing work without having to close the the 3DS? also not ideal for the alarm apps if like me you need darkness to be able to sleep, also nice that its DS compatible but Phantom Hourglass has an actual puzzle that requires you to shut the system, your going to be pretty stuck on the 2DS when that pops up.
@reala: it comes with a sleep slider-button thing, which will be the same as closing the system.
On other news, if this comparison table is real, that means the system has the same screen size as the original model, not the XL one, won't feature the battery saving mode and the battery lasts less than that of the XL. Oh, and it's monoaural only.
