I don’t really get why everyone’s freaking out over the 2DS. This isn’t some sort of replacement of your 3DS, it’s just for the budget gamers and children out there who want to play 3DS games but don’t care about missing out on 3D…

Also, it’s a genius idea to sell for kids. No 3D for their developing eyes. A cheap price point for parents, and no hinges for clumsy kids to break. And it releases the same day as Pokemon X & Y, the #1 game that gamers and children are all getting so pumped up for!

Here's another odd removal: It only has one speaker, on the left; where another speaker should be on the right seems to have been replaced by the notification light. So no stereo/surround sound, either. It really seems like another Game Boy Micro!

The 3D is really an useless feature that's gimmicky and gives me headaches; so even though I already own a 3DS and 3DS XL, I want this badly!

I was wondering when Nintendo finally realeasing the 3DS equivalent of a DSi & my god what a joke it is.
It's more useless than the DSi.
At least the DSi pretended to be next gen while Nintendo finished of devoping the 3DS(a.k.a. the true next gen system).

Also what sort of myths the media unintentionally invent like how the mistakenly invented the mysy of the DSi having improved proccessors.

I seriously thought this was an april fools day joke except it would have been a pretty lake april fools if it was.

Yep. Or as I said the game boy advance all over again, Nintendo taking steps back.

Just like the Wii Mini, this isn't directed to anyone who visits this site regularly. I agree with @True_Hero it's designed bulky for a reason.
It remains to be seen if this'll be a good move on Nintendo's behalf, but with a low price point and clear target audience, it has good basis.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

Here's some more differences

  • uses an internal rechargeable battery
  • battery is in-line with other company handhelds
  • charges with the same AC adapter used for 3DS systems
  • comes with a 4GB memory card
  • built-in speaker is mono, but features stereo headphone jack

I wonder what games would it have.....

The same as a regular 3DS (including DS backward compatibility).

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.

I agree with @BadKitty. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was GameBoy Advance. I guess this is ideal for young kids who's eyes are still developing but overall this seems like a step back imo.

I don't mind this. Am I going to buy it? No. But if it gets more people playing Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Mario & Luigi Dream Team, then it's been for a good cause.

And hey, perhaps Sean Malstrom and his 'anti 3D' followers will shut up now, since this is apparently their dream system.

Wait, I don't see the 2D Slider. How am I supposed to adjust the depth of 2D on this thing????

Yes that is another thing, if the 3d bothers some peoples eyes there is an off switch. :/

To anyone complaining about the size and the fact it doesn't fit any pockets... tell me which 7 (or less) year-old kid has a pocket that the 3DS XL fits... or even the regular 3DS.

Considering the launch date and price, it's pretty obvious that nintendo wants it to be "christmas gift of choice" for children interested in playing on nintendo handhelds.

It's not supposed to replace anyone's 3DS, XL or not, it's for a new public. And it's genius.
