I think it's interesting that Aonuma said that it "takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds". Kinda suggests that it'll be less like a OoT/TP/WW Zelda than people are hoping..... which isn't what I thought they'd do. Then again, they've been saying that Super Mario 3D Land is a "Mario Land" game but all I see is a "bite sized" version of Galaxy. So who knows.

....... Oh, and "Toon Link" is more probable than a realistic Zelda I would've thought because on a smaller screen you kinda need things to stand out more.

Nah personally I think the motion thing has run it's course.
I want to excercise my brain while playing Zelda. Not my arms.
Besides the Wii motion plus only made use of Skyward sword and maybe 5 others.
Real pointless add on if you ask me.
Also using the stylus only in those two DS games was retarted.
At least give us the option of traditional controls.

Just read this article on IGN and it made me incredibly happy! The only thing is... its probably at least a year if not further away from being released. So let's hold our horses Or our Eponas, as the case may be.

LOOOOL EPONAS LOOOOOOL

anyways
I agree with everyone saying Toon Link action. The graphics would be kick awesome on the 3DS.

Anyways, yeah. Toon Link would be awesome, but I don't want touch screen controls being the main premise, just more of a helpful little addition. It got kinda meh after a while with Phantom Hourglass.

Just watched the Zelda Orchestra trailer on the eShop again. The Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Skyward Sword styles all look awesome on the small screen. So I really don't care what they do, if they can push the 3DS to do those sort of visuals in 3D I'm going to be really happy.

....... I think they mostly look good because they've been scaled down from 480p so they look like they've got heaps of AA. Whatever the case, they should do that..... because it looks awesome.

This may or may not be related to the new game, but I found this tidbit of interview regarding Aonuma's desire for a 2D Zelda level design and recreating them in Stereoscopic 3D. Here's what he has to say:

"Well actually, even Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games," he said, "in particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds. That's something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."

Could this lead to a new Zelda game that takes inspiration from the 2D games, a 3D Classic Zelda LttP for the eShop maybe, or something else? And what about Majora's Mask, the devs wanted to remake this gem after the release of OoT3D.

EDIT - Before I forget, Source

Miyamoto is obsessed with LTTP, I swear.

You know how much he was involved in this game?

Also surprised he has only directed 10 games.

Does anyone think that this new original Zelda 3DS title might utilize the new catchy painterly watercolor visual art and character design style that we see in Skyward Sword?

3D classic of ALttP would be incredible on so many levels, I honestly am not sure if I want that or a full on MM remake more... both would make my year

It would be nice and quite welcomed if Nintendo gave us a sidescroller Legend of Zelda game on the Nintendo 3DS that is in the retro meets modern x 2D meets 3D vibe and spirit of Super Mario 3D Land! A Legend of Zelda game like that I would buy in a heartbeat as I'm really cherishing the time I'm having with my 3DS and Super Mario 3D Land.

...you're advising a Zelda platformer...? At least, that's what I think you're saying... gotta disagree there, anything other than a fantasy adventure game is NOT Zelda in my mind (Zelda 2 is the oldschool exception of course since that existed before the modern formula), but to each their own

I've been saying for years that the 3D Marios and Zeldas aren't almost anything like their 2D predecessors and that not all of the changes to the formulas have anything to do with the fact that they're 3D now. Now Nintendo has basically made my dream 3D Mario game hot on the heels of the popular and more modern Galaxy games to validate half of these posts, so why not Zelda? I don't know that I much expect this to happen, but here is what I would like to see, something more along the lines of Zelda 1 / A Link to the Past:

  • A big world that is mostly accessible from the start and which doesn't guide you straight to where you need to go.
  • Smaller rooms in dungeons filled more with enemies and hidden switches or bombable walls, and fewer puzzles.
  • Less linear dungeons.
  • Most items aren't required to finish their dungeons or even the game but are fun to use and make you stronger or more capable.
  • Bosses that aren't big puzzles who hit you.

Like with Mario, I don't see why any of these things needed to be changed to make the transition to 3D, and also like Mario, even if the end result wouldn't be a better experience than what we're getting now, it would be interesting to see how it comes out, a short detour in the series, and a worthwhile experiment. Lots of gamers refer to Elder Scrolls as the real Zelda 1 successor, but it's still an RPG and not quite what Zelda would be like in 3D, and even if it were, I would still like to see Nintendo's effort.

(Also, I'm nowhere near done Skyward Sword, so maybe one or two of these items has been addressed now.)

I hope the mask returns, I loved MM and he only said the evil is gone not the power. It would be interesting to see what kind of power the happy mask man might use against us.
