I wonder if this will usher in an entirely new art style for the handheld series? Aonuma said that the new game won't be a sequel to the DS titles so we could end up seeing an entirely new artistic interpretation of Link, Zelda and the world that they live in.
Cool, I just hope this upcoming Zelda game does not turn out to be similar to Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks and does not use ONLY the touch screen.

That's unlikely, with the top screen being 3D and the touch screen not...
I would love it if they would use the character design from the Oracle series for Link. Imagine that fully rendered in a 3D model. It would be awesome!
@lz - I meant Toon Link is the face of portable from here on out. Miyamoto himself said it

(regrading Took Link)........ it allowed us to create a real distinction between his adventures on home console and portable. Each has its own identity the coup and that is just fine.

And they released a remake of a non-Toon Link game on the handheld

Just read this article on IGN and it made me incredibly happy! The only thing is... its probably at least a year if not further away from being released. So let's hold our horses Or our Eponas, as the case may be.

That could Change. If Skyward Sword link or the Wii U look is how he looks in Brawl, shouldn't there be a change in the lil link too.

I have absolutely no problems with it being Toon Link... But I'd much prefer it be more like Wind Waker than Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (those were both great games though).
That graphical style is tied to that series of games. This game is not a direct sequel. Two out of eight portable Zeldas used that style, and the most recent didn't. I see no reason to make assumptions. I would like to see something more a mix between Toon Link and Minish Cap / Four Swords Link. It's not like they aren't ever going to change styles for the rest of time. His comment was most likely intended to reflect the then current generation.

Aren't Toon Link and Minish Cap Link the same thing? At least they looks pretty much same when I compare Minish Cap and Wind Waker box art.
It's its, not it's.
