Oh, and Swapnote is definitely something to be excited about. I don't understand why some people think it's not a good thing. It's pictochat over the internet, what's not to like? We've been asking for that for ages.

The automatic system update works
I didn't realize that there's a update available until open my 3DS after sleep mode for about a minute and said that a new system update is complete.

I just got the update too. I don't see anything different right now but it is probably just preparation for the arrival of Swapnote. I'm really looking forward to this. I hope that it does arrive tomorrow.

mabey this was the update that let developers unlock more power from the system, I thought it was suppose to be in the last one but as it coincides with some eshop updates it may be to do with that... just a thought.

How do you know that? Not that I'm complaining, it would be great if they would patch the game, but I'm just curious to know where you got that info (the patching being on an OS level). Even if they don't patch the actual game, it would be nice if they would at least add some kind of checking function into their servers so that the glitch can't be used online; I don't really care if people do it in 1P mode against CPUs.

Same here. Waited 2 minutes with no bar filling. Pressed the power button, the box in the bottom right froze and suddenly, the bar filled in 3 seconds lol

Anyhow, I saw no update for my download games (Kirby in particular). I'm curious to see if Nintendo will use the Updates section in the eShop settings to update their retail games there. Probably a good method. Could be mandatory, and they could prevent you from going online till you update.

I didnt find the Kirby update in the updates, I found an update button when I was running through my titles that I had downloaded. Its the 3D classic version as well incase you may have thought it was a VC version.

Ridge Racer had something wrong with it an a patch that everyone updated on fixed it.

Nintendo said that the update (before the fix) caused the issue, so that was at OS level - the patch wasn't modifying anything for the game really.

Mine's just sitting there, no progress on the bar. Hrm. Should I push the start button, too?

Update: Oh wait. Nevermind. LOL. Just updated. No changes here.

@skleiman It actually says "Swapnote" under that update!! Ok. Umm, where IS Swapnote then? LOL (It has the three flags for the three regions) It says it is coming out today (Dec 22nd) maybe it hasn't really hit yet? I wonder what tonight's update was for then? It's the 22nd now and no Swapnote.

So far nothing that I've noticed.
Maybe the system just needed to be prepared for Nintendo Letter Box for it to be able to run properly or something.

In Japan The Legend of Zelda is the first NES game to be available to the public today so this is likely what the update was for.
