I take my 3DS everywhere... I thought that was kind of the point of a handheld system?
If I go to the city, I take my 3DS.
If I walk to the supermarket down the street, I take my 3DS. (I've also actually got StreetPass there too)

Also, on topic, I'll definitely be sticking to physical copies as long as I have the choice.
Although, I'm running out of shelf space for all my games thanks to my big Wii game collection.

I'd be sticking with physical copies myself. I mean you can actually pre-order, they will be returnable or resaleable and they won't be taking up memory that you may need.

If there's an option to buy digital, I'll take it. Retail games are just too expensive in my country: games cost at least double here than in the US or Europe, due to import taxes. Digital distribution has been a blessing for me.

Iwata singled out Britain in his comments on software sales, noting that it is now Nintendo's worst market in Europe (they're selling far greater quantities in Germany, France, Spain, and others, and occupying many more spots on the software charts). What gives, Brits? Get yer' act together.

Now you know what happens when you rely on retail box sales, and the number #1 retailer in a country implodes for a few months.

@warioswoods It hasn't helped that GAME went down for a while and stopped selling the more mainstream video games. Not to mention most of my friends never buy games on release date and rather wait for the price to drop or buy it pre-owned instead.

I'd love to see digital copies of retail games... but I think its going to severely hurt the 3DS. The highest SD card you can have is 32 GB (correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm guessing most retail games will be over 10,000+ blocks, not including the save data and probably extra data for online and additional content. But the only way to see how this is going to work is to wait until August.

What do you do, sell your console?

You mean this slide:

The slide that specifically states that New Super Mario Bros 2 will be the first

Maybe I'm not interpreting the wording the right way, but I'm not seeing it specifically stated that NSMB2 will be the first game to embrace that model, just that the system will start with launch of NSMB2.

Why would they mention NSMB2 at all if it wasn't going to be a digital download? It's just not translated well.

Wait, is the eShop account-based or console based? I just read somewhere that it's still console based. If so, Nintendo needs to get their act together. Not that I own a 3DS, but there is no way I'd be spending money on digital games if I have to jump through hoops to transfer them when I upgrade. Not to mention if your console gets stolen.

EDIT: Also, clearly the press release indicates that NSMB2 will be available digitally too. I know it doesn't necessarily mean that going by exactly what is written there, but come on.

Its console based but most are hoping that it gets an update to. E account based. The thing is why is nintendo like five years behind on this. I mean you can link your club nintendo account and that tracks your purchased games for God sake. Its really not that hard to enable Club nintendo to be the eshop
Would solve a lot of problems.

Its been about 7 years and Microsoft is the only who has it right so far.

I don't know about Microsoft's service, but Steam is a great example. Steam works so well, and is so cheap - especially with sales - that it's literally not worth most people's time to pirate games. As long as you're only logged into Steam on a single computer at any one time, you can grab any single computer you want, log into Steam, download any of the games you own and start playing.

That Nintendo hasn't implemented something similar is just mind-boggling.

3DS games are all less than 2GB or at least they were at launch. Source: http://www.1up.com/news/nintendo-3ds-game-cards

So that 32GB SD card you can buy would hold ~16 3DS games that max out the capacity of the 3DS. That said the 3DS comes with only a 2GB SD card so you aren't going to be storing many games on there however I'd be really surprised if New SMB gets close to maxing out the 2GB!

Well I was mostly talking about the console makers. Steam really doesn't fit in the conversation as that's the norm on the Pc side. And even Microsoft gets it wrong sometimes (not ebbing able to be logged in on two machines)

I don't understand why we should exclude Steam. It's really only become the norm in the last couple of years, and we're simply talking about distribution methods for video games. That it has become prevalent on the PC before the consoles is irrelevant.

Most of the things that took Nintendo years, I think they were waiting and gave themselves time to improve stuff that could had issues if they rushed. It could be the death of their company. Also since they waited, the tech is easier and cheaper to produce and less glitchy updates.
