Well I hope the difficulty goes up since the amount of coins and lives is REALLY gonna go up. I also hate that it looks so much like the previous two entries but with more coins.

I can't even tell the difference between 2D and 3D lol did Nintendo even try with the 3D effect

Weird, people sure do seem to have different perceptions of 3D. Personally I love the 3D effect used here, and it was the biggest draw for me in the trailer. But I also love the Kirby's Adventure (3D Classics) use of 3D. Both use that mini-diorama approach that looks fantastic to me.

From the eShop description, "battle friends for high-scores in the new StreetPass-enabled competitive Coin Rush mode. Also, for the first time in a hand-held Mario title, two players can team up and play through the entire game via a local wireless connection."

Super Mario 3D Land had online. It was for the ever exciting passive sharing of those Toad house-like levels, forgot what they were called.

I'd like to see online play, but it seems doubtful, especially considering the description above this post (though that is a cool feature if you have a local 3DS buddy).

Come on, friends,

I really hope Wario is in this game in some way, shape, or form. Since Bowser is going to be the villain once again, that knocks Wario from the possible post. He could still be a playable character or just a story character who may be behind the coin extravanganza. I would be surprised if he's not in the game at all, since this game just screams Wario.

Me too! This game needs to have Wario. Wario's obsessed with gold! It would be cool for there to be an actual story besides "Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach...again" Somehow though, I know that Nintendo won't take the opportunity to make this game even more awesome.

most 3DS games are left eye dominant, so if you close your right eye and then open it you can see what objects are on what different planes. mario and every object in the levels are placed on the same plane while the backgrounds are slightly further back and the HUD is slightly farther forward. it looks weak because there are just 3 levels, HUD, mario/level, then backdrop.

it'd be cool if they put some objects closer to the camera to get a better 3D effect, like the snowflakes and sparkles in the video, but they don't. they're all kept at the same mid-depth as mario and the level, maybe with a few in the backdrop level. you get the sense that they're really trying to keep the 3D effect from being distracting, to the point where it's not even worth bothering.

Or just like what everyone else has said, the 3D videos never look as good as the actual games.

Because of lack of online?
In a Mario game?
How can anyone consider something like that a deal breaker?
Whatever. Everyone is free to their opinion. Enjoy...not enjoying this game? Or enjoy not not enjoying this game.

Does anyone else notice that the music is EXACTLY the same as New Super Mario Bros. Wii? Seriously Nintendo. I was just now getting excited for this game, but now I notice that both the main theme and desert overworld are the same. Does this mean the whole soundtrack is just copied and pasted from the Wii game? I don't know. Call me weird, but I look forward to new music whenever a new Nintendo game comes out, because they all have a high standard. Guess this game isn't so "New" after all.

No. Because it looks like NSMB just with a lot more coins. Coin rush and exchange you record via Streetpass. Big deal. It just doesn't interest me. I'd rather save the money.

@Retro
Oh good. At least that's a plausible reason.

Meh. Pikmin 3 drowns everything, both Hype and Dissapoint. Pikmin 3 is all I'll ever need.

IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL.

I've always found online gaming to be overrated...That is, if you're playing by 'yourself' online. Nothing beats the feeling of playing with your friends and having a total hoot in the same room with your 3DS's. 'By yourself' Online to me gives off an empty lonely feeling....As it did with SSFIV. sure it can be fun and addictive, but It just doesn't emmit the same wonderful and exciting feeling when doing so with your friends in the same room. there's no comparison.

And I can't stand it when somebody signs off a game because it doesn't support online. Seriously!? WTF.
This is NSMB 2 and correct me if i'm wrong but it's single player. why would there be any need for online in the first place?

WaveBoy

Retro_on_theGo

Completely agree with your feelings on online, Waveboy. It just can't match playing with your friends in the same room. I guess voice chat slightly fixes that. Really wish Nintendo would actually use that dang built in mic. Still, no online is never a deal breaker for me if the single player is actually fun.

This might be the first Mario platformer, 2D or 3D, in the history of the entire franchise that I won't be picking up. So totally recycled and copied-and-pasted. Hearing that exact same NSMBW music at the 3DS conference and seeing that World 2 is, for the third time now, a desert kind of sealed the game's already dangling fate in my eyes as a half-cooked also-ran of a game. I predict that this will be the first ever Mario game to get mediocre reviews.

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

This is another problem I'm having as well. Same visual asthetics and worlds aside(sigh*) the music seemed 'exactly' the same with a slightly different rendition.....How original. NSMB, NSMB Wii, NSMB 2 and NSMB Wii U take place in the same universe with minor changes along the way. I just wish Nintendo would change it up. At least with the Wii U they're going all out with the gorgeous looking backgrounds hehe.

Complaining aside, there's no doubt it's going to be great. It's just i wish Nintendo would drop the NSMB series and create an original Mario side scroller, something that sets it apart from the others the way 1,2,3 and World did. Those were completely different from each other in every way imaginable.

I completely agree! Actually i felt this exact same way the day NSMB Wii was revealed at E3. it's a shame, considering underrated titles like Wario Land Shake it completey blew it out of the water visually and creativity wise and that was released a year earlier.

The NSMB series > Recycled, lazy, cut and paste, unoriginal, milking, dejavu to the extreme, reusing the same music, SFX and worlds ect ect leaves a complete sour parakoopa taste in my mouth. BUT, i have to admit...NSMBWii U's beautiful & wonderful backdrops that are actually full of variety breath new life into the worlds and give off a new fresh feel which has me very excited. Plus playing a mario game in HD for the first time with true widescreen is the extreme bodacious killer Icing on the Fry Guy Cake. Not to mention it's a Launch title....Which takes me back to the days of NES & SNES days when stuff like this was essential. And that squirrel suit gives mario his retro Brown & red SMB1 overalls which blasts back to the days of Old. I'm lovin' it personally.

But after this, i hope the NSMB franchise dies....We don't NEED anymore, hand over 2D mario to GoodFeel and let them cook up an original masterpiece, they should be the ones to creat a spiritual successor to SMB2!

I'm still confused as to why NSMB2 isn't more like it's DS ancestor, and less like it's Wii ancestor...

So, what do you guys and gals think and/or hope will be the reward for reaching (Dr. Evil) ONE MEEELION coins? I'm hoping for an old game unlock. I'd say it could be SMB 3, but Nintendo would lose out on future SMB 3 3DS VC sales that way. Old arcade Mario Bros.? All right, your turn.
